The last similar thread I could find was from September 2007 so I assume it's OK to start a new one by now... I have recently made a CD with my all-time favourites (my Top 16) and was wondering:

What is your Top 5 of all-time favourite songs?

Mine is:
1) Hotel California - The Eagles
2) Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams
3) Losing my Religion - R.E.M.
4) November Rain - Guns 'n' Roses
5) Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chilli Peppers

"All time favourites" - does that mean they have to be among my favourites for the last 10 years (at least)? If yes:

Mercy Street - Peter Gabriel
Come Talk To Me - Peter Gabriel
Paths That Cross - Patti Smith
The Wild Wild Sea - Sting
Going Home - Mark Knopfler

And if "all time favourite" and "have been in my head for only a couple of years" aren't mutually exclusive, my list would go like this:

23 Minutes in Brussels - Luna
Kissy Kissy - The Kills
#4 - Sigur Ros
Comptine d'un autre été - Yann Tiersen
Temperature's Rising - Galaxie 500

In no particular order.

Actually, I listed Leonard as author not as performer...at least that's what I meant. I really, really enjoy Jeff Buckley's version. He adds a certain petulance to the song.

My favorite, though, is John Cale singing Hallelujah.

The only version - other than Leonhard's - I have in my head now is the one by Rufus Wainwright.

5. Nothing Has Been Proved - Dusty Springfield

An "honorary" song on my top 5 is Tattooed Millionaire, by Bruce Dickinson. Everyone on this list, no matter what type of music they like, should have at least one Bruce Dickinson song on their Ipod (legally downloaded, of course!), because Bruce is also a 757 pilot.
