Saint Patrick was the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland who is credited with bringing christianity to Ireland. Most of what is known about him comes from his two works, the Confessio, a spiritual autobiography, and his Epistola, a denunciation of British mistreatment of Irish christians. Saint Patrick described himself as a "most humble-minded man, pouring forth a continuous paean of thanks to his Maker for having chosen him as the instrument whereby multitudes who had worshipped idols and unclean things had become the people of God."
And even the Royal Family are celebrating ::

Quoting Toulouse (Reply 11): Happy Saint Patricks Day to everyone, both Irish and not, back home in Ireland and across the globe!
Quoting FatmirJusufi (Reply 12): Happy St. Patrick's Day to all Irish A.net members.
Have a happy green day.
The Republic of Ireland's flag is made of three equal-sized rectangles of orange, white, and green (this type of flag is called a tricolor). The flag is twice as wide as it is tall. The green side is by the flagpole. This flag was first used in 1848.
The green color on the flag represents the native people of Ireland (most of whom are Roman Catholic). The orange color represents the British supporters of William of Orange who settled in Northern Ireland in the 17th century (most of whom are Protestant). The white in the center of the flag represents peace between these two groups of people.
Also, thanks to OA260 for the photo of the fireworks. I've never seen all green fireworks before.
