NEW YORK - A man who said he was depressed shot himself in the head Wednesday in the rectory of St. Patrick's Cathedral while talking with a priest, authorities and church officials said.
The man was taken to a hospital; his condition was not immediately known. The priest was not hurt.
The Roman Catholic cathedral is on Fifth Avenue in busy midtown Manhattan.

First, he shot himself in the head and survived!!! Amazing.

You would think he would know that was a cardinal sin. Maybe someone has a vestried interest. Or perhaps he hoped he would be a deacon of light to others. All in all it vergers on the ridiculous.

A priest's residence, generally located adjacent to the church. Rectories also contain parish offices and sometimes public meeting rooms.

NEW YORK (AP) - A man who said he was depressed fatally shot himself in the head Wednesday in the rectory of St. Patrick's Cathedral while talking with a priest, authorities and church officials said.
The man, covered in blood, was taken away by ambulance and died at a hospital.
The man's name was not immediately released. Authorities said he had a note in his wallet; the contents were not disclosed.
The priest was shaken but apparently not hurt.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the man appeared in the rectory reception area, waited for a priest to be summoned, then went with the priest into a room, where he put the gun to his chin and pulled the trigger.
The Roman Catholic cathedral is on Fifth Avenue and 50th Street in busy midtown Manhattan.

NEW YORK - A man who said he was depressed shot himself in the head Wednesday in the rectory of St. Patrick's Cathedral while talking with a priest, authorities and church officials said.
The man, covered in blood, was taken away by ambulance. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly initially reported the man had died, but police said later Wednesday afternoon that he had been revived at Weill Cornell Medical Center.
The man's name was not immediately released. Authorities said he had a note in his wallet; the contents were not disclosed.
