Hello folks.

Pakistan are currently playing Aus in Abu Dhabi and managed to restrict Aus to 199. In typical Pakistani fashion, they went from a strong position of 90-0 to their currect score of 123-5.

It's been a while since I listened to Geoffrey Boycott's commentary, but boy did I miss it! Just a few gems from the past few minutes:

"They ought to take that bat off him and whack him over the head".

This was in response to Misbah ul haq getting out after running down the pitch and trying to club Clarke for 6 over mid-on off his first bowl after he had done the same to Nathan Hauritz in the previous over.

My favourite:

"Don't tell him to think, he'll get out!"

Boycott's reply after Dean Jones suggested Afridi should think and use his feet to get to the pitch of the ball  Big grin

What are your thoughts on his commentary. Do you love it or hate it?

Regards
 Smile

Mixed feelings on Boycott. Sometimes I feel that he's pointlessly negative but other times as above he's hilarious and spot on.

Overall though my favourite cricket commentator has to be David 'Bumble' Lloyd. For his general gems such as this.

Dimitri Mascheranas hits a huge 6: "It's um big.. it's um huge.. it's ummm DANGERanas!"

Dean Jones is still commentating? Surprising after his gaffe when we were playing a couple of years ago.

After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Agreed

Didn't old Geoffrey have a habit of doing that to his wife a few years back?

Agreed

Although another Geoffrey, G Henry Lawson, should come into consideration.

I think this is the season we farewell Richie.

Quoting Imiakhtar (Thread starter):
from a strong position of 90-0 to their current score of 123-5.

How ever did Pakistan manage to lose that game? I guess after Afridis bag of wickets you cannot ask for too much more. He gets out in the most amazing fashion for a guy with the talent he must have (somewhere) at batting.

Do you remember the ?Notts keeper called Fiddling? There were some classics from that, but they escape me at present. Maybe an old Wisden will reveal who was caught Fiddling.

Then there were Lillee, Willey and Dilley who memorably combined to dismiss the first with the last as bowler.

Ahh, the days bygone of Boycott, Bradman, Glichrist...I used to watch the test matches at Feroze Shah Kotla in Delhi or listen to the commentary on AIR - innumerable "The Sun is playing Hide and Seek with the clouds" references -  old

Did the golden-voiced Melville de Mellow also do cricket commentary ? I forget...
