My dad wants to be able to play his music from the computer (iTunes, Spotify) in the stereo and bought an Airport Express. I did warn him before and said that every time you are dealing with wireless stuff there are problems and that he should go with a standard 3.5mm wire instead  Wink

However he bought it and it's not working. My question is if you only want to use it to stream music from a lap top to a stereo, does it needs to be connected to the Internet? This is the problem, since the Internet connection is on the opposite wall from the stereo, where the Airport Express is and all cables are nicely hidden and having Ethernet cables running on the floor along the walls is forbidden by someone called mom...

So anyone having an idea or do I have to open the skirting boards and put in an Ethernet cable?

You can tell the Airport Express to act as a wireless client. In other words, it gets its Internet connection over your home's wireless network.

This supposes that you must have an Internet router with an Access Point somewhere else to "broadcast" the music. If the Airport Express is your only wireless component in the house, you're out of luck - you either put an Ethernet cable in place, or buy a second Airport (or another Wireless Access Point).

Exactly - you get it to bridge with your existing connection.

You can do it without - you just need to change wireless networks each time, so it's better to bridge.

Look up "Airfoil" if you want to stream from outside of iTunes

Thanks for your answers, but after I set up the network I tried to unplug the Internet Cable from the Airport Express and it did work!

Thanks for this! Wouldn't have figures that out on my own.
