Quoting Fuzzman777 (Thread starter): Im expecting 2 things to happen here- a few people reply with straighfoward answers, or we drag this one out for days with people saying what they gave their mother for her 50th birthday.
My Moms 50th birthday is a little over 2 months away.
What should I get? Nothing over the top, just limited to something I can pick up at a store and cover in wrapping paper.
I hope this gets interesting
I say one of two things:
Get all the pictures you can and put then on a memory card. And get one of those digital picture frames and give that as a gift. Memorys make great gifts and my mom loved it.
Or if she is not that type of person:
Jewelery (something nice like earrings or a necklace) but not something you get for an anniversary or Christmas. Flowers and a nice dinner
Anything the US and EU build the Russians do it better! i.e. TU-144 vs Concorde and TU-154 vs The 727...

That is exactly what I gave as a gift to a good friend of mine. I think it was perfect, and she sure loved it! So it's a thumbs up from me.

My uncle gave my mom a huge, singing card. On the front, it talked about the "F" word. It opened up, and it said something about the "F" word being fifty-- then the card broke into song. It was along the lines of "You're really f*$%ing old! You're really f*$%ing old!" ..and on and on, poking about turning 50 years old.
Was hysterical...she loved it and hated it at the same time. =D
