My External HDD Just Vanished!

Yesterday, I had my HDD from my PC in an enclosure and it was plugged into my laptop, and it worked fine. I transfered some stuff over, and disconnected it. I went to plug in before, and it refuses to display in My Computer, computer management and it isn't even recognised as a USB device.

Help? I'm losing my will to live, my Sims 3 disc image is on there and I'm dying to play  Wink

You are loosing your will to live just because you can't play a game?? Sims 3 on top of that??

You don't need computer help, you need psychiatrist help.

When was the last time you actually went outside for an activity?

The emoticon was to denote sarcasm.....

Either way, there are a lot of other important things on there I do in fact need, like college assignments, songs and lyrics I've written and a lot of important things in general so any help is appreciated.

In that case, check the following things:

- check to see if USB cable is loose
- if the USB cable can be replaced, try a different cable
- if the HDD uses external power, check the power adapter/cable
- try a different computer
- put your HDD in a freezer for about 20-30min and plug it in before it warms up
- if everything else is fine, try taking the HDD out of the enclosure and plug it in directly

and if all else fails:

- stand about 5-7 feet away from a concrete wall, take your HDD, throw it against the wall as hard as you can. That should fix it.

I looked at download File Recover...and the trial version saw all my files on it...but you have to pay....funny thing is that...the status of Bootlog.exe was poor....maybe this is the reason

Wrong order, you should in the early stages take the HDD apart from the case and either try it in a different enclosure, or directly in a computer. I've seen quite a few instances where the case's electronics have been bad.

I would not use the freezer at all here, though I have managed to rescue some in the past. There's a "proper" procedure for it, but I'm going into it here.

First, remove the offending device...

Next, blow hard along the length of any exposed electrical contacts...

DONE!!!!

Aaaahhh the good old Nintendo blow. Solves anything!!!

If that doesn't work you really are buggered!!

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
