You put pictures without specs? On a car as crucial as this! Naughty.

Here are the specs - and they are something incredible:

4498cc V8 -
570hp@9000rpm
398 lb-ft@6000rpm
80% of peak torque available from 3250rpm
7 speed twin-clutch transmission
1380kg weight

0-100km/h 3.4 seconds
203mph top speed

This car is absolutely packed with technology, and absolutely bursting with sheer violence. This is Ferrari telling all of its rivals, we are better than you, and you'll have a really tough time matching it.

I can see so many race-track production car records tumbling with this car. It has the E-diff/Traction control combination used previously which is also very effective, so it should just put the power down without drama.

What an awesome bit of engineering. Just staggering. It might well be as game changing as the legendary F40.

I don’t like the look of this car. It’s shaped oddly, and what’s with those THREE tailpipes? And what’s the purpose of having a turn signal when it’s very difficult to see while the brakelights are on?

Yes, I apologise. I just wanted to show you the design first and then talk about the specs. Thanks for posting them, by the way. It's true that they are impressive!!!

By the way, I way just kidding.  Wink

I still can't quite believe how far this car has advanced the benchmark. Even the pretty good 430 Scuderia seems pretty silly against this new car.

What will it be like when they take more weight from the car? Oh my goodness.  Smile

I agree. It looks more like a technical design, where form followed function. That's excellent for performance but for a car like this you need visual appeal as well. The 599 Fiorano has both performance and looks. I love the 599. This 458 will be like the Enzo...I respect the Enzo for its capabilities but can't call it a beautiful car as I would a Merc SLR or a Miura or an XKE.

You know they are talking about the replacement for that car having no less than 700hp to motivate just 900kg.

The trick aerodynamics on this 458 are another area of major difference to all rivals. With a 458 Italia, will anyone even bother with rivals like R8 V10 FSI or the Gallardo LP560. It is in another world of performance, and well, everything really.

It appears to be a car that will dominate everything else in the fashion of Schumacher and the F2003GA F1 car

Perhaps the new 2WD Gallardo is an attempt to blunt the impact of this car - but will that strategy work?

This car is more powerful (and the engine appears to be much better overall), seemingly more advanced in the chassis department and even lighter. As we all know, engine power is nothing if the engine isn't flexible - and this engine appears to meet that requirement superbly.

The acceleration in the real world will likely be even more brutal the typically conservative claims from Ferrari.

Another statistic - 62mph to zero in just 32.5 metres.

Fantastic. Of cause I have to see it in person, but this must be one of the most beautiful Sportscars of the last 20 years, and beside the stunning Fiorano the best looking current Ferrari. The headlamps are a bit of a letdown, too ornate for a Ferrari. But the whole car is so much better than the odd California. I´ve just been to the local ferrari dealer with my little nephew, cant remember to have seen a nicer car there, with the notable exception of the stunning Fiorano.

I agree with your agreement.  Silly I love the 599 too, it’s so cool on pictures and looks even better live. I’ve never understood the Enzo, it’s freakin’ horribly looking!

Stunning looking car, Ferrari's best looking car since the 288 GTO. It will be interesting to see what Porsche comes up with the next 911 GT2.

Whilst the F40 was an awesome looking car it wasn't game changing at all, nothing in it was much different from the 288 GTO which it was based on, the Porsche 959 was the game changing supercar of the 80's.

Quoting Aero145 (Reply 12):

The Enzo was designed to go fast, function was what it was all about, looks were secondary. If you wanted a good looking Enzo you needed to buy the Maserati MC12, almost the same car slightly less power but faster around the Ring.

You don't need to wait that long. Fly down to Dubai, rent one there for a day or more and race it on Sheikh Zayed Road between Dubai and Abu Dhabi at whatever speed you fancy. I have seen them wealthy locals racing their toys on that highway in the desert in some quite amazing ways.

Funny that you picked the '03 car, Schumacher actually had a run for his money that year from Raikkonen's Mclaren and Montoya's BMW. The 2002 and 2004 cars were much more dominant, giving him the title long before the season was over in both cases.

As for the 458, I like it! I normally don't like the new ferraris in photos, I only learn to appreciate them when I see them in person (the Enzo, for example), but I like this one right off the bat. Should be a phenomenal car, and I know that they are already working on a 458GT to compete in sportscar racing, Risi Competizione in the US will be running a couple in the ALMS next year  Smile

The F458 looks like the teenage brother of the Enzo, one beautiful car.

But i must say that im surprised the F430 is already up for replacement. When is this one suppose to hit the market?

The 360 Modena was launched in 1999 and was replaced in 2005 by the F430 so around 6 years of production. The predecessor of the 360,the classic 355 also hung around for around 6 years.Going by this i would imagine that the F430 should continue till 2010-2011.

Lately im a little out of the loop of the auto industry developments (other then religiously following Top Gear) but are you sure the F458 is infact the replacement for the F430 or something in between the F430 and the F599? And if it is indeed the replacement, when is it expected?

25 YooYoo : Very nice car!! How many cupholders? Where do i place the kids safety seat? Does it come in Diesel?

27 AirframeAS : Eh.... just another car to me. Nothing big.....
28 LTU932 : I like the very aggressive looks of the Ferrari 458. It's perfect for doing 180 mph on a clear day and in an empty Autobahn.
29 NA : So, what is more than "just another car" for you? And how do you define "big" in this case?
30 BMI727 : Excellent looking car, and probably an even better performer. Come on, does anyone really care? Just look at it.
31 2H4 : Purely out of curiosity, I'd love to see the recommended service intervals and costs. 2H4
32 AirframeAS : Perhaps a 737-700? Big as in no big of a deal. Im not into cars that flashy anyway.
33 Pyrex : Wow. That is more than a Honda S2000! New record for atmospheric engines, for sure. Just thinking about the noise that engine must make at 8,500 rpm

35 BMI727 : Probably better than a manual since a careless driver can't really shorten the life of a semiautomatic.
36 Rsg85 : the more i look at it the more it grows on me this car is going to have a massive amount of downforce, notice the subtly built rear spoiler and front

41 Springbok747 : What a beautiful car!!
42 Aerobalance : 150 lb. lighter and 40 more hp than a Porsche GT2... Interesting...
43 Aero145 : Well that’s a first!
44 NA : I see, so its a generic statement you would say about any car anyway. I dont see many parallels here, especially not with the Lotus. As for the Arteg

47 AerorobNZ : I'm a TdF Blue Ferrari man myself....but you bring up an interesting point this shape doesn't necessarily suggest itself to a spider in the same way
48 DLA330 : It's definitely a nice looking car. Quite fast for an entry level Ferrari though the California is now the entry level model. No KERS system though.
