Hey all,

For some reason recently, often when I am browsing the airliners.net site, my firewall detects:

Someone from mica128.dp3.nas.bne.quicknet.com.au [203.37.143.92], port 1025 wants to send UDP datagram to port 137 owned by 'Dial-Up Networking

I'm not sure what to do about it, but does anyone else here experience the same thing?

I don't know what it means either, but I too have a firewall that picks up things all the time . I believe that most instances are quite innocent but you can never be sure.

Better safe than sorry so if you don't have a firewall get one. You can download them for free from lots of sites on the web.

One thing you can rely on is that there is always someone out there who wants to spoil your day.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a firewall?
I've seen it mentioned a lot on other sites but wasn't sure what it was.
Is it some sort of buffer or barrier to stop hacking or viruses etc?
If so, I might get one then.
Sorry, not too computer lit here.

NZ767,

I'm too tired to try and explain it, so instead I'll just refer you to this page:

Port 137-139 are owned by NetBIOS, and used for filesharing on networks. If you don't have a home network I'd make sure that you haven't got NetBIOS installed in your network properties.
If you allready haven't, set your firewall to block these 3 ports if you don't use them.

Is it always trying to connect from remote 1025?

Staffan

Thanks for that Staffan. Not sure if it is always port 1025, but the same address keeps coming up when I am browsing this site. I'll keep an eye on it.
