I went to the Irvine Meadowes concert here in So-Cal a few weeks ago. It was a good show, good moments - quite the surprise when they played an acoustic version of MJ's 'Billie Jean'. One moment when the lead singers wife was singing the words to 'Fix You' while she was on the monitors but didn't know it.
I enjoyed the release of the hundred or so big yellow balloons for 'Yellow', we ended up popping a few of them. 'Life in Technicolor' (both versions) and 'Viva la Vida' were my fav songs of the night. I thought the snare drum was way to loud on 'Politik', that was the only distraction of the show.
Can't help you where the songs where recorded for LRLRL. Nice disc though.

Viva LaVida is way overplayed on the NYC radio stations (which is why I am sick and tired of hearing it) and "Life in Technicolor (ii)" is not played ENOUGH. I think "LITC" sounds too much like "Lovers in Japan", however, you will not find any other complaints out of me because I love both of those songs.

I saw them last year in RTM. I loved it, loved it, loved it! They played all the songs I hoped for, Clocks, Life in Technicolor, Death and all his Friends. The show (and music) were fantastic. The sound was great, and they dropped down millions of paper butterflies when playing Lovers in Japan. I'm lucky enough to go and see them again in September!
As for the album, as Carlisle said Viva La Vida is overplayed, but on LRLRL I really like it! The rest of the songs are great as well. I'm usually not that big of a "fan" of a band or what but Coldplay's music and shows are just amazing!

Nice, would be nice to have Gwyneth in Aus sometime
Quoting Carlisle (Reply 2): "Life in Technicolor (ii)" is not played ENOUGH
Agreed, a very under-rated song.
Quoting BMIFlyer (Reply 4): I'm going to see them on September 18th, at Wembley Stadium, London.
Holy crap, that'll be awesome!! I'm so jealous.
BTW i figured out where "Fix You" and "Viva La Vida" off LRLRL are recorded.
Coldplay have said they have mixed multiple recordings for the one song, but the last part of "Fix You" was recorded on 11th March 09 in Sydney at the Acer Arena, and VLV was recorded the night after at the same venue...watch the clips on youtube...

Coldplay themselves actually tape all of their shows for documentary purposes. Last year they decided they wanted to give the fans something for as a gesture and so they picked out of the recordings the ones they liked, and went from there. I know a couple were taken from Sydney.
I have seen them play 5 times in the past 2 years and I have to say they are one of the best live bands out there.

Quoting Ebs757 (Reply 8): And you actually take Satriani seriously? lol
Actually, I used to be a fan of both. I had pretty much the whole collection of both Coldplay and Joe Satriani on the CD shelf. When I first listened to "Viva la Vida", I thought, wow that is so cool, they are cooperating with Joe Satriani, or covering him, or something. Then I realized they didn't give him any credit for using his song in one of theirs, and even worse, they denied any relation of the 2 songs. I used to think Coldplay are halfway intelligent people, but this shows they are obviously not. It would have been so easy for them to admit that they covered the song, hell it happens all the time. You just don't PRETEND you came up with it, that's just not how it works.
Well there are 2 mentalities on intellectual property, while you Ebs757 seem to have the Chinese mentality of "stealing intellectual property = making a compliment about how good it is", I prefer the western way where you have to observe copyright laws.
Sorry, but after that event I'm disgusted by the way Coldplay treats a fellow musician. If they can't come up with original content, they should hire somebody to do it for them, but NOT take a good song from somebody else and pretend it is theirs.
All the things you probably hate about travelling are warm reminders that I'm home

Well birdwatcher, since you obviously are going on the basis of the two songs sounding simular to you, I am not going to waste my time with music theory with you. Coldplays tune has virtually 2 cords from the satriani song. Maybe you should check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSZITC4tEes
