So in the vein of the Climate Change and Evolution debates,
I challenge anyone here to convince me that the world is round.
Those fake pics supposedly taken by "astronauts" are not valid evidence. Anyone can paint a pretty picture.
PROVE it to me!

Then again, maybe not.
Do not taunt. Do not shake. Do not pander. Add coffee. Subject should be slightly human within an hour.
Do you mind having several hundred rockets strapped to your butt? If you don't, and we can scrounge up some surplus astronaut suits, we'll be all set to prove it to you.
Aviation is proof that given, the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible.

Perhaps the best way to prove that Earth is not a complete circle, and shaped more like an orange (flatter on top and bottom) is to study the great circle navigation routes flown by airplanes equipped with INS and GPS. The distance across the North Pole from Alaska to Finland is actually about 200nm shorter than it would be if flying over a perfect curviture of the Earth. You get the same phonimina when flying from the Southern Tip on South America (Chile and the Straits of Megelian) to Austrailia over the South Pole.
Do you also believe those pictures and films of the US Astronauts on the Moon was actually taken in a movie studio set in London, too?
Quote: You can also observe, with binoculars, ships slowly 'sinking' below the horizon as it sails farther and farther out to the ocean, then watch them come back. They certainly didn't fall off the edge of the earth! You can also sail or fly around the world.
The Greeks discovered that the earth is round by observing lunar eclipses (i.e. when the earth blocks the sun from the moon, casting its round shadow on the moon's surface).
Another method is simultaneously measuring the length of the shadows cast by identical poles perpendicular to a flat surface that is tangential to the earth's radius at various, distant locations. If indeed the earth is round, then the shadows should all vary in length from one distant location to another, which means that the angle at which the parallel rays of sunlight struck each pole varied from one location to another. (recall the alternate-angles theorem from Geometry class) If the earth is flat, then the lengths of all the shadows should be identical when measured simultaneously, since all rays of sunlight that strike the earth are parallel. However, they are not identical, but in fact, varies in such a way that the angles indicate a spherical surface. (This was one of the earliest methods to determine the radius of the earth)
Also, keep in mind the 24 hour time zones. When it is noon in Hawaii, it is approximately midnight in the Middle East and vice versa. How can it be noon and midnight simultaneously? It is certainly impossible with a flat earth and a sun millions of times more massive.

How about all the live casts from the Intenational Space Station showing the Earth in the background when the astronauts are doing the EVAs?
Is this made in a studio you think?
A lot of cults and religious whackos are still pretending that the Earth is flat.
Would you rather believe in these cults than in the live images coming from Space?
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

The higher you are, the more pronounced is the curvature of the earth. So go to the top of any high mountain with a yardstick, try to match the yardstick to the horizon, and that should do it.
I'm telling you to go there youself, since you don't want to accept photographic evidence.

Short of this... rent/buy/steal a business jet and take it up to 45000'+, the curvature is quite obvious... or better yet borrow some other high altitude research aircraft (U2/TR1 would work, or a WB-57...).

Well I've seen the curve of the Earth, seven times from 58-60,000 feet.
(But then in a few years time, some will say that no way did airline passengers between 1976 and 2003 travel at Mach 2. Because we don't do it now, therefore it never happened in the first place, 'cos technology is 'better' now and we ain't doing it!.
Hey, if that 'logic' is good enough enough for Apollo conspiracy types...........)

blue and green flashes of any astronomical body setting on the horizon when you are at sea on a mostly clear day/night with no haze on the horizon and no serious seas...I've seen green and blue flashes of the sun, moon and venus - nearly every night for a week straight several years ago for the sun, and a couple nights running for the moon and venus.
The flashes are caused by refracted light through the sea surface as the astronomical body falls below the horizon. You have to be looking at just the right moment, but damn, is it cool!
...(I, too, hope you are joking btw )

Filmed at the same studio they used to fake the moon landings. With some help from Industrial Light and Magic. They had to crop out the Death Star about to obliterate the earth.
