I've been an active user here for almost three years. Although i don't post regulary, i visit here on a more than daily basis. I notice trends that happen within the forum, and frankly, there is one that is disturbing me more than ever.
It has been going on for some time, but this Johan bashing is really immature and illinformed. I was a moderator for a very short period (officially one day), and after expiriencing the mass emails that I recieved from the moderators concerning posts on this forum, mainly, i decided to throw in the towel and give the job to someone who could properly handle it.
During that brief period, I realised something: That no matter how biased Johan is, it's a fucking hard job to do. Imagine getting 1000 complaints in a month, and having to respond to all of them. Although it may seem that Johan is an asshole, wouldn't you be an asshole if you had all these damn people on your case every minute of the day.
It is an extremely hard job to run this site. Frankly, if Johan didn't do all the work he did, you wouldn't have a place to be bitching at him on. I realise that sometimes it's not fair, but since when has all life been fair?
I think that, although we are all entitled to our own opinion, that we should be grateful to Johan for the work that he does here. It's not an easy job.
You can tell me that i'm just a sympathiser that doesn't know what he's talking about, but i can assure you that I do have a point. you don't have to agree with it. Frankly, you don't have to agree with Johan, he's a human being like the rest of us. We don't have to like him, but we can certainly respect the place that he has worked extremely hard to provide for, most of us, free of charge.
I think a little respect is due,
live forever and stay beautiful,

I agree with you, Hole_courtney. I've been here for nearly two years and the number of complainers has gone up a lot lately. Johan operates this site because he wants to. People who get upset about deletions and the such have to remember that this is Johan's site and not just some place for them to come and post junk.

This site is, for the most part, FREE. (Even the First class is a bargain when you consider most premium web sites are no less than US$10 per month.)
All these great photos to view... FREE.
All the *valid*, interesting and informative posts in the forums... FREE.
Don't some of you realize you are looking a "gift horse in the mouth"?
I hope to God Johan shuts the forums down before ever deciding to kill the entire site or make it all premium.
The problem with the forums is people use them like chatrooms. Spewing every thought that passes through the brain with NO SELF-EDITING. Unfortunately, that leads to ridiculous name-calling and personal assaults. The non-av forum looks more like MTV.com everyday.
People that resort to personal swipes or name-calling are POOR AT DEBATING. (Not to mention over-emotive and in all likelihood, insecure.)
Sometimes I wish the forums standards were as high as the photo standards.

In all fairness, most of the forums (Tech Ops, hobby, trip reports, Miliatry, etc), EXCEPT this one, (and sometimes Civil Aviation), seem to run quite smoothly already, and have a high quality level of discussion. No improvment is needed in those forums.
I wouldn't mind if non-aviation got canned, this is airliners.net after all, not politics.net or something.

Yeah, I think the non-av forum is the only part about a.net that needs to be fixed/elliminated. It probably takes up a lot of server space and is most of the time filled with crap. I notice so many people who post soley in the non-av forum, can't they find another place to post their ideas and opinions. Everyone is biased in one way or another. No one can truely claim they are 100% open minded. I agree many people are too biased, but what can you do... Johan is doing a wonderful job and once I get a regular job and a credit card I will definately get my first class membership to help support this site. For you who still aren't happy, you get what you pay for. If you don't like the site...leave.

OK, ta! Just wondered.
By the way, with regards to the original post. As I understand, it's BAD to bash Johan? But it's GOOD to bash those putting their own views forward? (which what the original poster is doing)
No double standard there then.
For the record, I don't blindy bash Johan for no reason, I put forward my own view on an aspect that affects me on this site. The thread I posted yesterday re: how posts criticising the forum/site are treating DID actually get a sensible answer from one of the administrators & I was happy with the reply.
