Road Cycling. That being said, I can't think of another sport where being World Champion means so little. All the prestige goes to the winners of the Big 3 (Vuelta, Giro and Tour). The championship is seen as a consolation prize at the end of the season for the also-rans. Many of the big names don't even show up.

That is so not true.

The world champs might be less compared to the Tour, Giro, Vuelta, but that's just the way cycling is built around these days.

It is definitely not just a consolation prize...why else would so many big names target it??
Cancellara, Evans, Cunego, Valverde, Sanchez etc etc etc
