Firefox Thunderbird Mail Icon On Tool Bar

Does Firefox offer a way to put a Thunderbird mail icon on the tool bar just as IE has a link to a mail program...?

Right now to check my mail I need to close or minimize Firefox, then open Thunderbird. What I'm looking for is a link to click on to check and download mail without all those steps.
