The man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing has revealed fresh evidence which he believes proves his innocence.

They say they include information that could have been used to undermine the shopkeeper's credibility in court, such as:
:: That just before picking out Megrahi in an ID parade, the shopkeeper had seen a press photo of the Libyan. The defence team did not know the shopkeeper had also compared Megrahi's photo with one of convicted terrorist Abu Talb, who they think was the real bomber.
:: That there were inconsistencies surrounding the date the clothes were bought.
The shopkeeper said it was before the Christmas lights were put up in his home town. But a local MP who performed the switching on ceremony said he had flicked the switch the day before the purchase. Also, at one stage Mr Gauci told Crown prosecutors that the date of purchase was actually November 29, a fortnight before Megrahi was said to have bought the clothes.

Like I said before I was never convinced he was the man and if he is not then who was it??

According to the Guardian report today, the shopkeeper was also paid $2m, and his brother $1m by the US authorities. That from the SCCRC.

It is reassuring to know that "justice" has a price tag like everything else.

For some people, there are two facts that convince them that Al Megrahi was guilty:
1. He's a Libyan. (Libya is a country they think is a supporter of terrorism.)
2. He's a Muslim. (Islam is a religion they think is a supporter of terrorism.)

For them, any other fact is irrelevant.

Proving that Al Megrahi was innocent might be way easier than proving that O.J. Simpson was.

He played a part. He was a part of their gov't during the planning. Their gov't planned it, the admitted to it, therefor he was a part of it. Even if he didn't plant the bomb himself

It's never a surprise that everyone jumps to blame the U.S. for everything.

Both of those statements are pretty much true, Historically Libya is a state sponsor of terrorism, and in this day and age most terrorism has roots in islamic fundalmentalism

Very true, frankly I think it is a sign of envy on the worlds part.

Does this mean every Libyan is guilty?

They showed the proof to the jury, he was convicted.

Certainly not, but some were and probably still are.

In this thread we are discussing whether the evidences presented to the jury were valid.

edit: grammar

Yes, it is about the evidence, being valid, my point is the jury thought so. Was he guilty? The evidence according to the jury is valid, so he was found guilty. Off topic??

The OP opened this thread because there are new evidences that contradict the evidences showed to the jury. Al Megrahi deserves a retrial.

Not at all. But it smells bad when huge amounts of money are necessary to get someone to talk. And presumably, talk as he is told to talk. Like i said, that was from the SCCRC, who presumably don't have an axe to grind.

As for envy, please. What a childish statement.
