Hi all,

I just read in a Wikipedia article that the following Marlboro flavors are available on the (US) market:

- Marlboro Black Menthol
- Marlboro Ice Mint
- Marlboro Crisp Mint
- Marlboro Fresh Mint
- Marlboro Frost

Does anyone has more information about these flavors? Are they usual menthol cigarettes with a different branding or do they taste different than a usual menthol cigarette? "Frost" and "Ice Mint" sounds pretty cool.

Thanks for any info!

Patrick

At first I thought you were referring to snus, but they are indeed cigarettes.

The US recently banned the sale of flavored cigarettes. This law was meant to prevent cigarette companies from luring kids into smoking. I'm not sure if you can buy these anymore, unless Malboro specifically makes them for sale in other countries.

I have never heard of any of them I don't smoke anymore, but I hand around a lot of bars, where people smoke, and I have not seen them. I also teach auto shop in a high school and I have a lot of smokers and I haven't heard any kids mention them.

I would bet that they are not sold in the US market.

I bet they are. Camel also has a dozen weird and wacky sub-varieties like that as well. Years ago I used to work for RJR and the varieties stun even me now when I look at the rack in the store. It's gone nuts.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I hope they won't do that here in Germany because I switched from the regular Marlboros to West Ice (a spearmint flavored cigarette) recently. I noticed that I smoke less when I have smokes with menthol or spearmint flavor.

I just searched for the aforementioned flavors via Google picture search and it seems that most of them are available on the Japanese market (the "smoking is bad for you" warnings on the bottom of the boxes were in Japanese language).

Any A.netter from Japan has more infos about them?

That's no secret.  Wink

As I wrote in my post above, I switched to menthol cigarettes because I smoke less of them. Today I only smoked 6, when I would still smoke the red Marlboros I would be at 20 or even more right now. Actually I don't want to quit completely, smoking 2 or maximum 3 cigarettes a day is my goal.

But for methnol flavoring, all 'flavored' cigarettes are being banned in the USA for sale as they can be attractive especially to underaged and young smokers (under 21). I suspect these may be for non-USA markets only although some may have been test marketed in the USA until the recently created bans.

Yeah, the famous ZRH meeting! I still remember the SQ 744 taking off a few meters next to us... priceless moment! Anyone made a video but I lost it unfortunately when I trew my old notebook into the trash.

It was your idea ("light up a smoke under the sign and I take a pic of it") Big grin The pic was apparently too much for some moron from New Zealand who is no longer a member of A.net. He started a thread about it on 'Whiners back then.  Silly

Those were the good 'ole A.net times.  cheerful

PS: I still own the jacket I wear in the pic, I brought it to the dry-cleaners today, winter-time is coming again.

Hey Patrick, I'm just back from the US and I've seen some packs I had never seen before. I only smoke from time to time and I bought two packs of menthol just for the curiosity, one is dark green with "blend n°54" on it, the other is grey and blue... I've also seen some other colors too at some shops but I don't have more info  Smile

I didn't know them before but I just found them via Google:

Looks interesting.

Sounds like "Marlboro Menthol Mild". I remember them from my last USA trip.

Thanks for your info! Always appreciated!

Hi Patrick, I remember the marlboro "blend" in white and blue packs...

Oh yeah, I also remember the marlboro kretek from Indonesia with clove flavour... Well, tried once, never again  Wink

A friend also got some clove flavour cigarettes from his Indonesian colleague at work, it was not Marlboro but some local brand. Clove flavour seems to be popular in Indonesia.

Same here. I smoked half a cigarette. Never again! I would quit smoking immediately when they would be the only available ciggies in the world.  Wink

I tried Marlboro 54's when they were on a promotional sale here. They were half the price of the other brands of cigarettes, and in NYC that is a big difference. They were alright, but as a Newport smoker I did not care for them. They tasted like Marlboro Menthol, but perhaps just a little bit smoother and lighter. Not something I would spend full price for, but interesting to try for the promotion.

I tried Marlboro Black Menthol while in Japan. I just kind of pointed to something, because it looked like it was Menthol and it was at a busy little shop in the metro and didn't want to hold up the line behind me. It tastes like smoking a cigarette while having a menthol cough drop in your mouth. It's very cold. At first, it seems interesting... but I found that an entire pack started tasting like medicine and it was a bit nauseating.

Marlboro Ice Mint was similar, very cold but tasted like peppermint. Still, I found it to be too much for more than just an occasional cigarette. After a night of smoking the black menthol and then ice mint the next day, I was begging for a regular menthol cigarette.

I have never seen either in the US, although I don't know if they just aren't marketed here or if they are covered under the ban of flavored cigarettes.

I don't much like flavored cigarettes, anyway. The occasional clove is nice, but for my day to day smoking I just prefer the traditional ones.

I also like normal cigarettes more than the flavoured ones, but as I wrote in a reply above, I smoke less a day when I smoke flavoured cigs, that's the only reason why I switched to them from the usual red Marlboros I used to smoke before.

Thanks again for this interesting information about these rather unknown flavours.

It seems that I have to go to Japan, this country must be the heaven for menthol smokers.  Wink

Hasn’t Japan got the highest ratio of smokers in the world? Guess it’s a ”smoker’s heaven” anyways!  Wink ”Pollution heaven” too, though.

Could be but I don't know. I noticed that smoking becomes more and more unpopular even in countries like Spain or Italy. So it could be that Japan is on top now.

Seems I was wrong. Gadling says Greece and Macedonia and Russia are on the top:

Greece is also on the top here  Wink :

Could be completely wrong though.
