I will be arriving on BA 288 on the 25th of December and am having a hell of a time finding way to get into the city. I know I could take a cab but that will cost about as much as I played for the flight, sarcastic of course. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I know I saw a thread about this topic a bit ago, but couldnt seem to find it again. Thank you all in advance.

From what I understand, the entire British public transportation system takes Christmas Day off, so the cab may be your only option.

There may be something operational, but very limited. You're probably looking at 2x fare for taxis, not sure what the standard fare is through. I tried to look at the tfl website for you (http://www.tfl.gov.uk) but it says that information for Christmas day will not be available until mid-December!!!  banghead

If you get stuck, come and say hello, will wish you a happy christmas. Im doing a double on Christmas Day in T5.
Indeed, transport appears to be non existent on the 25th December.
I think the Heathrow Express train might be running. It lets me book a ticket with them (Well, get as far as the payment page)

I may just do that. Based on your past, what can I expect interms of load factor for my flight. It leaves on Christmas Eve at about 21:00 local time. Arrives LHR about about 13:00 on Christmas Day. I booked it hoping that it would be fairly light. Here's to wishing.

Thanks again mates

No domestic flights, reduced operation on European services. Was quiet last year.

Heathrow Express is the revolutionary, non-stop train service between Heathrow Airport and Paddington station in the heart of London. It's just 15 minutes to and from Terminals 1, 2 and 3, and 5 minutes more to and from Terminals 4 and 5. Convenient and reliable, trains depart every 15 minutes from 05:00 to 23:50, 365 days a year.

You can purchase an e-ticket online to save time and paper, these cost from just £16.50 for a single and £32 for an open return.

Tel: +44 (0)845 600 1515 or book online.

It would appear that the Heathrow Connect train is also running - a 1/2 hourly stopping train to Paddington, cost is £7.40 single, train runs every 1/2 hour taking 33 mins. At least, their online booking engine let me select a ticket for 25th December!

Heathrow Express and Connect appear to be running, though you might also want to look into a mini cab. They are licensed but require advanced (loose term, you call and they show up fast) booking as opposed to just hitting the curb and holding your arm out. Generally about 25-30% cheaper than a black cab on airport runs.

Regarding LHR to London on Christmas day. Heathrow Express will not be running, but will offer a replacement bus from Heathrow Central bus station, to Paddington Rail Station, taking 45 mins. The bus will depart every 30 mins at xx10 and xx40. Hope this helps you....

This is info from BMIFlyer who asked me to post this for him...

A black cab for that route won't be that bad.

Or a crazy colored cab covered with advertisements are the new norm in London I'm afraid... Not that it's a bad thing (sure brightens things up from the constant black)...  Smile
