I still can't believe all the hype behing this doomsday crap in 2012. I went to an elementary school on a community service project a few months ago and I remember one of the kids telling me that school isn't important becuase the world is gonna end in 2012. Are people really this gullible? Has history not shown them how dumb it is to believe in this doomsday stuff? (remember the Y2K crap?)

Yeah there a movie coming out next month, people love that stuff and they love to equate it with the wars and problems going on in the world. It's hype and its about fear just like the Bible end times pushers and the gullible people who believe it.

The 2012 movie will probably do well with the followers of the "Left Behind" series of books and movies.

Throughout history, there have been those who have predicted the end of the world. To date, every one of them has been wrong.

I believe all that will happen on 21 Dec. 2012 (the end of the Mayan Calender) will be the galactic alignment they predicted. This alignment happens about every 26,000 years, or so. Astronomers are now seeing this is going to take place, and getting telescopes ready around the world. I believe the Hubble will also be involved in these observations.

I believe in God and the Bible. There are many things mentioned in the Bible that have not happened, but must happen before the Battle of Armageddon, such as the rapture, the arrival of the anti-christ, the seven years of his rule, the seven seals broken, and the four horsemen riding. All of this is in the Book of Revelations.

BTW, even the Biblical Battle of Armageddon does not end the world. There will be 1000 years of peice after God's and Jesus's forces prevail at Armageddon, according to the Bible.

I know many people here don't believe in the Bible. That is fine, I have no beef about that. I just believe the Bible, and the fact that it does not say exactly when the world will end.

No Mayan that I have heard has ever believed the world will end after the long count concludes at the end of the 13th Baktun on 21 Dec. 2012.

You do realize that the Bible was actually written by human beings and not some divine power?  Wink

We know exactly when the world will end. In about 5 billion years when the sun finally runs out of fuel. But how arrogant can we (humans) be to think we'll actually survive 5 billion years? I think humans would be extinct long before the end of the world happens.

So you're saying you do believe the world will end on Dec 21, 2012? If you are, you realize that in the bible, it says that no man shall know when Jesus returns, right. Then if that's true, how can the whole world be sure that Dec 21 2012 is the end of days? Something is wrong somewhere.

Where does he say that? He says the only thing that will happen is the alignment thing. Unless you believe that the alignment spells the "end of the world", then there's nothing to worry about.

There's a difference between when the world will end and when the earth will be destroyed (or no longer sustain life).

Too me, the 'world' ending means a fundemental change in the circumstances that affect our existance. Not at a local or regional level, but at a global level. Something that will change everything. What will that be? Who knows? When? Maybe it will be when the Sun dies, but more than likely, it will happen well before that.

Too me, The Bible provides 'theologic truth', but is not historically accurate. But, that is another thread.

Nah, if every single prediction of the end of the world would've been correct, then it would have ended about 10 times within a very short span.

So what if this allignment should occur? Wasn't there some gallactic allignment before? We're still alive, breathing, and beating, right? I'm thinking there will be a few earthquakes and perhaps a volcanic eruption, all in the Pacific Rim region (ring of fire). That's about it IMO... Hey, kinda like what happened just last week or so...

I think the Bible and Jesus are irrelevant in this so called "end of the world." The Maya believed in a whole different set of gods and a whole different set of outcomes. I think the Bible really should have no impact on this story. The calender will just reset itself and start the next level (the piktun) in the Long Count calender, which until soon, hasn't been past 0 yet. The calender really won't truly reset itself until the 19th alautun level, but that's millions of years from now.

Jeez, nothing to get upset about, I was just asking because it wasn't clear. But reading it a couple more times, I can see what he meant. Guys calm down, you're at a 10 when you need to be at a 2

I've already said it will be the Bengals and Lions on the way to a Super Bowl match up, and if that happens, I'm heading for the hills. I guess someone else is thinking along the same lines.  wink

Eh... but the Bengals have been to the Super Bowl before, after the 1982 and 1988 seasons if I'm not mistaken (only to lose both times to the 49ers. Heck at least they weren't like the Bills and to make 4 straight Super Bowls and lose all four). Cleveland has not...

And no, the world will not end in 2012. Anyways I'll be in Albania 28th of Nov. 2012 celebrating the 100th birthday of that country. lol

The world won't end because of a very simple reason. It will never be 21st December everywhere in the world at the same time. While it's not 21st December on the westernmost point of Alaska, the prophecy can't fulfill. And when 21st December gets there, it is already 22nd December on the other side of the Bering Strait.

See, the world can't end in a single day
