So, as im sat here with a few of my mates and a few (crates) of beer, were watching Napoleon Dynamite. I should point out i have been pretty obsessed with this film for years and know it pretty much off by heart - sad i know!
What do you guys think of it? If you have not seen it before, you must. And if you have what do you think? I cant believe anyone could not like it!
A few facts which amazed me about it:
It only cost $400,000 to film
It grossed $46m (in the US alone), making it a huge success
Jon Heder, who played Napoleon, was paid just $1000
The filming was completed in just 22 days.
Eagles may soar high, but weasels dont get sucked into jet engines!
Had it been about an hour shorter I could have tolerated it, but I found it to be just painful after about 45 minutes.
I've only seen it all the way through in one sitting once, but in total I've probably seen it 4-5 times if you add all of the snippets (I used to sit on the board of a film festival that took over 7 of 10 screens in a multiplex; one year it was running in one of the 3 "normal" screens so every time I ran past that theater in the projection booth I got a minute or two... much more amusing that way.

At first I thought it was stupid. Maybe the 3rd time of watching it (nothing else was on) I started to find it funny. Maybe it made my IQ drop the first 2 times, which caused me to find it funny the 3rd time lol.

Quoting FLY2HMO (Reply 4): The most retarded and pointless movie I've ever seen. I want 82 minutes of my life back
Awww, was it that bad?

Wow, that is devotion!
Saw it once. It was cute, overhyped. But then again, I probably thought as highly about Clerks and the followup KEvin Smith flicks ( Chasing Amy, Dogma, Clerks 2, Jay and Silent Bob, Mall Rats) and raved about them to others too.

After my first viewing I sounded like the other posters who hated it, or didn't even watch the whole movie.
Then I was in the room when my sister watched it a while later, half paying attention.
Then I found myself quoting it.
Then I found myself watching it again. Several times.
You definitely can't be uptight about such things and it helps to take a " I understand it's bad, but..." approach. But if you do, it entertains, which is what a movie should do.
It was probably the most overrated film I've seen in decades, never got what the fuss was all about and if I had to recommend it to anyone I'd tell them to watch the first 10mins of it, then go out and come back at the lst 5 minutes to see
And it shows. I have seen it on TV several times and still think it is a pointless movie that has nothing really to add. I just don't get it. There was nothing funny in the movie. I don't understand what the big deal is.

Funny thing about those films, I loved Clerks and Mallrats. Starting with how much I enjoyed those two films, I saw Dogma. I was not impressed. Then, Chasing Amy. I gave up about 30 minutes in. So, I never saw Clerks 2 or Jay and Silent Bob. There just comes a point when the joke is just not funny anymore.
