Why do white people complain about racism on Comedy Central? Especially from the black comics? I love the jokes that make. I love CC.

I have heard nothing of that your saying, and having been married to a black woman, I feel I can be pretty partial on topics like this. If what ou are saying is true, maybe it's because if a Black Comic does a 30 minute routine, where 20 minutes of it, is based on making fun of white people or the differences in blacks and whites...it's considered comedy. If a white person does the same thing, it's considered racist.

While I find a lot of them funny, I also find a lot of them quite offensive. A lot of people look at them like "no matter what they say, black people can't be racist towards white people, so these jokes must be funny." That simply isn't the truth. Look at a thread I started a while back on reverse racism.

Its also the fact that if you were to have a white person say the exact same joke about blacks, they'd be booed and hissed off the stage, sued, etc.

I do agee with Fly. It the same thing as whites laughting at joke made towards racial, ethnic minorities. Then they say that racism does exist and that people are complaining too much. If they think that is true, and they find those things funny then why do they complain when black make jokes about them. Then again racism "doesnt" exist. Right?

I agree. The equal rights groups always complain about how racist whites are, and then you have a black comedian who makes jokes about white people for 20 minutes, and the equal rights groups pretend not to notice. While I do laugh at a lot of those jokes, I do find them racist and as KROC said,
"...if a white person says the same thing, it's considered racist."

No offence to the African-American/German/Canadian/British etc... members here, but it seems to be the truth.

Oh I hate this argument. You can't judge black and white jokes in a vacuum, blacks and whites have a history in America, and some of it not so pleasant. There was a period in time when Whites completely dominated the black race in every aspect of society and worked hard to prevent their rise and freedom, blacks dominating whites in society corresponds to no period of our history, so jokes that conjur up a painful and putrid period of the past are interpreted quite different than those that correspond to nothing in our history.

I'm sorry you fellas can't realize that.

If a comedian's main platform is nothing but making jokes about another race (or even thier own race), then that is poor indeed. Chris Rock is a prime example of this. For one thing, it shows a lack of creativity. A good comedian can run all day on a variety of issues.

Good topic.

I'm sorry TNNH, that you think 2 wrongs make a right. I agree that as much if not more than anyone that You can't judge white and black issues eually due to oh 400 years of slavery then 150 years of racial discrimination, but to overcome, you have to pick and choose your battles. If a comic is making you laugh by cracking racial jokes, thats fine, either on white or black, but as people we should have enough common sense to know its all in fun, and that the comedian is just making jokes so we can laugh.

Howard Stern does make black jokes, and french jokes, and Jewish jokes, and jokes about himself, and on white people, and on Italians, and on British.....he is an equal opprotunity ball buster.....but, because he does make black jokes, he at least at one point was catching flack from the FCC to black activists. Whats funny, is that blacks that listen to his show, know it's all just entertainment, and like him. Hell, in providence, his morning show is on the Rap & R&B station there.

Chris Rok to me is one of the few comedians who can get away with the white joke humor, only because he busts on blacks just as much. His delievery and demeanor help get him over, plus he always hits all kinds of topics.

I think I can kinda speak about this topic. I am a white male, who I guess you could say is preppy/rich or whatever (even though I'm not rich) and because of a program that I'm in for high school, I attend a high school where minorities are the majority.

Now, most of the people in the program are not minorities (its something like 45% asian, 52% white, 2% black, and 1% hispanic) and the white and asians are totally always getting the "reverse racism" from the majorly black and hispanic school. I mean, its not even jokes, its just plain racism, that if a white person would respond to the black person in kind, they would basically get totally raped.

Now I also live right near to one of the worst malls in the state, and when my brother and I go there, and look in the shoe stores (Champ Sports and Foot Locker and stuff) black and hispanic kids are always like, "Hey, why is whitey here." That just pisses me off, I mean come on now, I have never said anything to you, and you need to say that.

But, to actually respond to the question asked, I am pretty much ok with the white humor, except, when thats the only they've got, it borders, or even crosses the line into racism, and that really pisses me off.

David B, I have never heard anyone complain about black comics on CC specifically, but I have heard the fundamental premise of minorities getting pass on jabbing the majority group. And that's what I think it is; a minority/majority type of thing. Jokes about the largest groups tend to be immune from judgement. This argument is in the same realm of Miss Black America vs. Miss White America thing that has been beat up on A.net before. As I said before, I never had a problem with this and I don't find it hypocritical. I know if the tables were turned and whites were the minority, then this wouldn't be accepted.

All groups (white, black, asian, hindu/sikh, etc) are responsible & guilty of racism, and have their fair share of racists.

There does appear to be a 'white guilt' though that means that anti-white racism is tolerated by whites....whether this is a reasonable response by whites as a way of correcting for past white racism such as slavery is a question with no correct answer.

There are also many minorities who cry racism far, far too often.

In truth, everyone discriminates, and has been discriminated against.

I see where TNNH is coming from. If someone offends me racially, it doesn't really bother me. Like when I was in 7th grade down in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in a school that was 70% black, I was called a 'honkey' in anger a few times, but it was actually more funny to me than offensive. My race doesn't have a long recent history of being conquered and oppressed, so there aren't any historical reasons to get offended.

The thing that really bothers me is when comedians and other people of color try to get political and speak of a pan-non-white alliance. Like this comedian the other day on Comic View on BET was saying that Blacks should get along with Latinos because they "Are our people". After 9-11 on America's Most Wanted, they were in this cafe in NYC and this waitress was talking smack about Iraq and this black women familiar with the Iraqi cause started blabbering away about how Iraqi babies were dying and that they were her people. BullllllShiiiiit. African-descendent Americans are not the same people as Latinos/as. There are some Afro-Caribbean Latinos/as, but the similarities end there. And Arabs from Iraq have nothing in common with black people. I wish I could have been there to tell that woman about a place called the Sudan where it is in a state of near civil war because the Arab peoples of the north have gradually forced the black Africans of their lands to the south.

I really wish these people would stop making the world so black and white, us and them. We are a world of many peoples.
