After the Yankees won the series against the Angels 4:2, we can finally begin the fall classic this Wednesday.

The Philadelphia Phillies (4:1) will face the New York Yankees (4:2) this time, and my hope is that the Phillies will win the World Series 4:1 or 4:2. As long as the Yankees don't win, any series result is fine by me.  mischievous

I do wonder what the pitching duels will be. I guess for Game 1 it could be perhaps Cole Hamels or Pedro Martínez vs CC Sabathia.

Cliff Lee will be going for the Phils in Game 1 vs. CC. That's going to be a heck of a matchup.

I'm not going to worry about the WS yet - I'll be enjoying the win tonight. It feels damn good.

Enjoy it. The Yanks were close to a déjà vu experience if you didn't win this one. Otherwise, people would have started talking about a Red Sox curse.  Wink

That's all I needed to know - the Phillies are going to be ready  Smile Cole Hamels didn't have a great performance last game, but hopefully he'll bounce back. We'll need everything in our arsenal to take down the Yankees...

I've been hoping for a Phillies vs. Yankees matchup in the world series since I was a kid. The Phillies have a strong team and if our pitching holds together we're going to fare well. I'm chalking up a third WS championship for the Phils.

Hamels has lost it. The only way the Phillies will win is if Lee goes 3 times, and Pedro throws twice.

Seeing the Bronx Bitches get their hopes shattered by the lesser city to the south will bring satisfaction to millions of Americans  bouncy

The Phillies have solid pitching, and fared well against NYY in interleague play this year. Everyone knows how good their offense is so that goes without saying. Their ability to win on the road is also a major strength - both of these teams were unbeatable at home in the regular season so it's really going to be a test of who can hold up best in the other guy's park.

Who would've thought the Phils would ever be the titleholder for the best two-season postseason record in NL history???

Phillies already won it this year right?  Wink I'm calling it going to be 4:2 Phillies.

On other news that may affect the first game, as well as other games this week. Looks like SEPTA employees want to go on strike later this week. They always want to get their way somehow someway.

Well, this year's series has already been referred to as the "Turnpike Series" (opposite ends of the New Jersey Turnpike) by one or two local sportscasters.

Some have even referred to it as the Liberty Series (Bell vs. Statue).

If one remembers last year's parade; even a fully-operational SEPTA laid a big-time egg operations-wise. It couldn't handle the added masses. I wound up driving to/from work that day because I didn't want to get stuck or stranded. Mass transit is one area where Philly will ALWAYS be 3rd rate when compared to those of New York, DC and/or Boston; but that's another topic for another thread.

While I knew about the upcoming Eagles-Giants game; I did not know about the upcoming Knicks-76ers game.

Turnpike Series; it seems like this upcoming weekend will be more like Turnpike Sports.

Living in the Philly area for over 19 years AND growing up in Red Sox territory prior to that; one can pretty much guess which team I'm rooting for to win this series.

Only downside is that the game is at MSG. At least that might give the Knicks a slightly better chance of winning.

Here's to New York reminding Philly of which city is superior this weekend on all fronts! Go Yanks, Go Giants and Go Knicks!

Game 1 goes to the Phillies 6-1. Sabathia was good (only gave up two runs, the bullpen imploded for the rest), but Cliff Lee was better, which isn't all that surprising. All you can do is tip your hat and come back the next day when Pedro goes up against Burnett. The Yankees tend to do well against Pedro, so we'll see how that goes.
