Here's a fun challenge: I've been playing around with Google Maps directions, and I've tried to come up with the longest possible road trip that is covered in the software.

So far I'm at 5543 Miles / 4 days 14 hours, I'm not going to tell you yet from where to where it is. What's the longest you can come up with?

I've found a 8,108km long route from Vardo in Northern Norway to Anadag in Eastern Turkey. Scheduled time: 4 days 9 hours... isn't that a bit like one you drove?  Wink

In South America a 8,825km long route taking 4 days 16 hours from Punta Arenas in Chile to Uiramuta in Brazil.

I won't tell you from where to where this is, but here is instruction number 51 from Google Maps  Wink

51. Kayak across the Pacific Ocean 3,879 mi

Oh, I love the humor of Google  rotfl

Sticking to North America, looking in a map book and only by car, just a good guess of 2 points:
Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada to Homer, Alaska - 8,504 Kms (~5,187 Miles) - 4 Days, 2 hours.

Key West to Prudhoe Bay is slightly longer at 5,490 miles (8,785 km), although portions are unpaved and may be closed during certain parts of the year.

I'm sure the longest possible without cheating and crossing an ocean would either be from
A) Somewhere in Alaska down to the southern tip of South America.
B) The southern tip of Africa (South Africa) to north eastern Asia (Russia).
C) Somewhere in Southeastern Asia to the eastern part of Europe (Portugal)

My dad and I will eventually do this trip.

You must not take the most direct route. Mapquest puts that route at 3,112 miles, or 6,100 km each way.

My entry for the longest possible road trip I found a 5 days 5 hours route, domestic in China and 6946km. Apparently not all superduper highways. Between the famous cities of Da Hinggan Ling and Ngari!

Mapquest needs calibrating. 3,112 miles is 5,008 km.

I was thinking this too but apparently there is an 87km gap between Panama and Colombia (Darien Gap) where there are no roads.

St. John's, Newfounland to Anchorage Alaska: 5900 miles / 9495 km. About 6 days of driving.

You'd have to do an oil change half way and once you get there (assuming changing after 5000km)  Silly

Google failed to do so, but Bing maps was able to calculate me a route from Belgium to Singapore, but only when I added stops along the way... total distance: 9139.4 miles or 14 708 kilometers

Now this would make for an interesting road trip...
