Folk here might appreciate the birthday cake I assembled for my son's first birthday...

It's not going to win any awards for cake decoration, but it was my first ever attempt and completed under pressure in a couple of hours! The underlying cake was just sponge squares and swiss rolls purchased from the supermarket after our baking attempt failed to produce a suitably edible outcome (despite our generally excellent baking record).

Why Jetstar? Alex had flown Jetstar to Japan before he was even born, then again to Japan when he was four years old. Then, at nine months old, he flew Jetstar Asia to Kuala Lumpur from Singapore.

Plus I needed to indicated that the cake was an aircraft and not a space shuttle!  Smile

In just one year of life outside the womb Alex has made 9 flights on 5 airlines and 5 different aircraft (A380, A330, A320, 737, ATR72) between 4 countries. He's also caught all sorts of trains from subways to Shinkansens, started swimming lessons and attended a wedding, a funeral and a science conference. I reckon he's done more in his first year than many do in their lifetimes. I hope we can continue to offer him as many opportunities as he grows up.

I'm liking this most definitely. What I find strange is that I'm an Alex as well and my parents are equally as insane and since I was young have quite often got me aeroplane related cakes for my birthday and for some reason, at Christmas. This still continues to this day even though I doth protest. I'm 23 for gods sake!

Well done I say. Parents that won't let their children travel whilst they are young really get on my tits, especially in the UK. Why subject them to holidays in Cornwall until they are 10?  Angry

He's also caught all sorts of trains

Hmm shouldn't this be four months and not years?

Very happy-b day to Alex! I did enjoy your trip reports. When I was 9 or 10 (maybe 8!) I remeber going to the cake person and saying I wanted a PA cake! (this was a few years ago) Instead, I got one saying Axel Airlines. When asked why I did not get PA, my mum said it would have been too dificult to make! Good job for a homemade cake! when he is 13, give him an A.net membership!

At least I'm going to alternate between trains and planes!

Is that a complaint because you'd rather drink the rum than waste it on a cake?

Awesome, start them out young. I can't wait to see the fascination on my son's face when he fly's for the first time.

I don't know if I dare share one of my creations here when there is a certified cake decorator in residence! Are Airbuses even allowed?  Smile
