Red Foxes - What Do You Like About Them?

Red Foxes are my favourite animal, they are so cool and i have loads of photos of them (from other people so wont post without their permission) Big grin Have you got any Fox photos or stories to share here? would love to see them.

This thread if about the animal variety mind! have fun!

They love eating our chickens and they have some really weird mating calls and rituals. It's just starting again now, the dog runs around the village barking and the Vixen runs as fast as she can away from him! Add to the the horny badgers which chase each other round the garden at 4am making a god awful racket, and you can see the village is kept up quite a lot at night.  grumpy 

Their population has really exploded round here - not because of the hunting ban, but because the local estate breeds phesants for shooting. There are thousands of them, all completely stupid, so for the fox it's like walking into McDonalds for you and me - only it's phesant on the menu.

There are an awful lot around here as well. There's a national park nearby swarming with rabbit and besides a few species of hawks, owls and wild cats there's no other natural predator for them around (at least until wolves arrive in a few years).

Obviously they spill out of the park and make a mess of chickens, rabbit farms, etc. At least they take care of rats and mice as well.

They carry rabies.

Every couple of years there would be a rabies outbreak and a lot of it was the foxes that where around.

They do make great pelts. I used to as a kid once in a while walk my dad's trapline with him. Too bad I was a bit young at the time to really learn how to do it.
