So I take it that the offer made awhile ago by an African man to Hillary (livestock) for Chelsea's hand wasn't taken up?

Perhaps her fiance's family made a better deal?  Silly

Misses being an old maid but that much!

Well lets hope they will be a happy couple. After being together for so many years getting married will be almost an afterthought.

I know Marc! Or Mez, as we called him. We were in the same frosh dorm at Stanford.

God, the fun in college that we had when the two of them kept on denying being in a relationship...

He's a good guy (good-looking guy, too!). I'm glad they're getting married. Best of luck, Chels and Mez!

Oh, that Chelsea. See, I have a friend named Chelsea who just recently got engaged. So......I thought perhaps this thread was going to be about her, which would have been, well, weird.

On the subject of Chelsea Clinton, I'm surprised she's still relevant.

Well, her mother is the Secretary of State and her father is one of the most influential statesmen in the world. Also, she really grew up in the White House in a way we haven't seen that often. Adolescence into early adulthood. And now, she is the age of many of the people now reporting on her.

I heard him say last week. " Global warming may actually cause cooling in some regions" " "That's why Its real hard agenda for us to uh, uh sell " - Bill Clinton.

All that aside , I wish Chelsey well... I really think she is a classy young lady who has conducted herself very well. She deserves to be happy after all she has endured.

I'm sure she'd rather be left alone, but I think this sort of coverage is harmless enough. It's a marriage, so it's a big thing. And we all did watch her grow up (well, she's a year younger than I am).

Fortunately, the media has been pretty good at leaving her alone. And she's been pretty good at not calling undue attention to herself. Her parents did a great job, I must say. Whether you like their politics or not, they raised one hell of a daughter and they have every right to be very proud.

Since I don't really follow other people's relationships I had no idea she was still with the same guy. I remember reading about their relationship years and years ago when I was still in college. And yes, he is pretty good looking. Best of luck to them.

You and I basically grew up with her. Especially you, since you were classmates. I agree that the coverage is reasonable given the circumstances. I am against super aggressive paparazzi, but people in the public eye should expect some press coverage.

Quoting DocLightning (Reply 9):

I agree. I think the Clintons sent out a secret memo to the press years ago that they would crush anyone who didn't tread lightly.

Absolutely. They really raised her well. Whatever people think about the Clintons politically, or even personally to some extent, you can't say they were anything but excellent parents.

A bit of an aside but I always laugh when attention-whore celebrities who got into the business for the sole reason of being famous and getting their name out there start complaining about being chased by the paparazzi. As you mention, the overly aggressive types need to back off but those who pursue careers in the public eye are very well aware of the consequences.

Yep. And that is another reason I think they handled Chelsea well. Then again, the press around US political types is generally more mild than around other celebs.

Well, they spent a lot of time together, but I think they were just friends. She dated other guys and he certainly had his fair share of women (they were all over him like flies to honey in college; the guy is hot as hell).

I speculate that as they grew older, they realized that they had something that their other relationships hadn't had and tried to change their friendship into a relationship. And, apparently, it worked out. Ultimately, a good relationship is a good friendship.

Well, they can be pretty vicious towards politicians. They just *usually* lay off the kids. And remember, neither Chelsea nor Marc are politicians. They haven't run for office.

Have to fully agree. They'll be great parents too with the wisdom that should derive from their backgrounds.

Some on this site won't like it if they become parents though - even if Marc and Chelsea raise them Jewish and mom goes through full conversion, they'll never be "real" Jews!  Yeah sure

That kind of closed mindedness is so very unfortunate.

I have a feeling that Chelsea isn't converting. And I have a feeling that neither of them could give a hoot.
