Well, I was honestly expecting worse, like something political along the lines of Cascadas Simon Bolivar, or worse, Chavez Falls
If anything, they'll probably always be known as Angel Falls worldwide, whatever he decides to change the name to. The article itself mentions several name changes but nobody out of Venezuela really heard anything of them or cared.

I was thinking the same thing when I first read the headline that he was re-naming the falls. I was expecting something political in nature. Going back to the indigenous name isn't such an awful thing but I agree it probably won't catch on worldwide. Although it seems to be working somewhat with Mt. McKinley going back to it's native name of Denali. I'd love for Mt. Rainier to go back to being called Tahoma but that ain't gonna happen.
Well, this one wouldn't be so bad after all! Chavez FALLS! (fantasies!!!)
Anyhow, what a jackass... changing Venezuela's patrimony... he has no business here, all he wants is to destroy the little bit of country we have left.

I was expecting Cascadas Fidel Castro!
But does anyone care what that nutjob calls the falls?

I know this is not politically correct, but do I care? Not really. How come South America is so good at creating these 10 cent Dictators? Is it the water or what?

Yeah, it could serve as a hint to the rest of the civilized world. It's time to take out Venezuela's garbage...

Yeah, me too.
But hell, I'd rather him be doing this sort of crap than nationalizing stuff.

What a f***** moron! Really? How the hell is he still the president of a whole country?! Wow..
He is an idiot, there is no doubt about that. But Kerepakupai-Meru is the falls name, as given by the indigenous people, so technically he is just stating which name he wants used.
But the guy is a complete nutcase, I wouldn't expect better from him.

Are we going to have a "Keating was a nut case" thread because the locals wanted to call it Uluru. Thought not. What is good enough for the Pitjantjatjara ......

While Chavez is a nutcase, I fail to see what the big deal here is. Going back to original name is bad? Just because others outside of the region did not know it before Angel "discovered" it does not mean it did not exists. I fail to see why everybody is tied up in knots over this.

Even further I am not sure why every thing this guy does is such big news in here. Hell there are lots of dictators and most do not rate a new thread every time they speak.

Exactly, he wants to use the Falls original name, well so be it. That doesn't change the price of sugar. The thing is, this nutcase gets exactly what he wants, attention.

If renaming a famous landmark to it's original name is a bad thing, then I'll actually support him in it for this one occasion - nothing wrong with using the name given by the first people to originally discover it....however in all other respects I do agree, he is a nutcase...

I speculate that it's because he publicly dares to defy the US government and Americans don't take kindly to someone insulting their patriotic belief in an omnipotent national government.

Being head of state does not mean you can't be a moron. A quick survey of world leaders should tell you that.
I don't see the big deal with this particular move as it's reverting to an indigenous name.
