so, I have come across a situation where the current place I am living in is advertising rooms identical to mine at $100 a week cheaper, I have asked the manager why this is the case and his response was "that it didn't pertain to our property". seems like an odd response from him when the address for the house is ours, the images are all of our house and so-on.

as you can imagine most of us are pretty ticked off...paying $100 a week more than needed is nothing short of extortion, any suggestions? I have fired off a few direct emails.

Are you in the middle of a lease? My apartment complex did this to me last year. I originally signed a 12 month lease in July 2008 for $1050 a month. However, by December 2008, I learned the same units were going for $870 a month. Naturally, I was upset and asked the management about this. They refused to work with me on it. Since I still had 7 months on my lease, I figured by the end of it, I would have overpaid by $1260. I told them this, and the fact that it was cheaper for me to just break the lease, equal to one months rent. It never got anywhere, so I just broke it and moved elsewhere and haven't looked back.  Smile

yep, in the middle of the lease but they are renting rooms in the house, not apartments in a complex, so, anyone that moves in at a lesser price is effectively being paid for by those of us paying a higher rate.

Quoting Qantas077 (Reply 2):

It's the same principle really. Regardless, that could be considered one of the downsides of signing a lease while renting a room in a house, you are sort of locked in.
