My French Student visa has a note that says "“CESEDA R311-3 6° AUTORISE TRAVAIL
LIMITE 60% DUREE LEGALE” Does the limite 60% duree legale mean that I can only be in France for 60% of the total length of time the visa is valid?

Thanks! I appreciate the assistance of anyone who might be familiar with how French visas work.

I don't think so. "Travail" IIRC correctly means "work" so maybe you are authorised to do limited work up to 60% of the time you are there, i.e. to support yourself.

Hello Venuscat2,

This Visa allows you to work 60% of the time you spend in France. For example, if you stay 6 months, you are allowed to work for a total duration of 452 hours over these 6 months.

As you are as foreign student, France allows you to legally find a source of revenue to pay any charge you might have (rent, bills, etc.).

Thanks for the clarifying for me.

Would you happen to know the formalities of visiting other European countries with this Visa? I.e. If I go to visit Italy or Spain will there be any potential problems? For some reason information on this is really hard to find via google.

No, because you won't pass any passport controls between France and Italy/Spain. Google Schengen Area.

You really need to get better prepared for studying abroad. Ask your home university's study abroad office. If they don't help, do some research. Basically, consider yourself lucky that you can work at all in France, although I do wonder how you'll do outside of Paris if you can't read something as simple as that instruction.

Well pardon me.

One of the common stereotypes of Americans abroad is that they don't bother to learn jack about the place they're going and then beg for the help of others when they get there, language-, culture- or otherwise. I'm an American abroad, and I see this all the time. Do yourself a favor and don't be that guy. If you take care of this crap beforehand, you'll have a much better time. France is a fun place if you know how to manage it, but otherwise it can suck.

Thanks again for all the info - I'm not there yet so I'm working on figuring all this out right now.
