Maybe its just an Argentinian thing ?

I thought Argentina was more famous for its beef than for its pork.

That's correct Pyrex, and I've always said we should follow Portugal's glowing example.

No one has any idea where she gets this from. Most people actually just think its an indirect form of getting people to eat less beef, since we eat about 10 more kilos per capita than country number 2 on the rankings.

It's well known she has a personal fight to pick with ranchers over beef production which has stagnated somewhat in the last two or three years because of barriers to export and a severe drought in 2008 and 2009 (which seems to be over now).

IMHO you can rather eat beef than pork from a health point of view. Beef has generally less fat. Of course this does depend on the kind of beef and the kind of pork, but still.

The problem is that this government's policies to keep prices low internally at the cost of exports has caused imbalances, so with less incentive to produce plus a very severe drought that killed quite a bit of cattle, even by controlling exports prices are going to go significantly higher for beef.

This is her way of making people eat other meats without having to say the price of steak and barbecue is going up and that it's partly her fault. She also said we should ''fly with chickens'' too (eat more poultry).

It is famous for beef, but thanks to her leadership, a country that once exported its famous beef now struggles to produce it for its own citizens.

Correct, it's just that the rest of the world doesn't cover the story because quite frankly (as one foreign reporter said) it's hard to feel sorry about the country given it's still extravagant consumption in this category. Even as it's come down from ''steak for breakast, steak for lunch, steak for dinner'' culture of the past.

What are the hog farms like in Argentina? I've been out in the Patagonia a few times, but most of my experience and trips have been in Buenos Aires, Rosario, and the Lakes Region. If they are anything like those in the US recommending higher consumption of them is the last thing in the world a politician should be doing.

I love Argentina. The Argentine people are so friendly, amazingly good looking, and fit and in-shape. It's a great place to holiday in.

She is suggesting it because she knows they'll have her head now that beef prices are going up and up. So she is saying pork is good for sex, chicken is good for wrinkles, and sheep is good for lonelyness.

That's all she is doing it for, she messed up the beef industry with her populism, so now the drought put a bottleneck on supply. The drought is over now, but a lot of cattle head died and ranchers had been slaughtering females anyways because of the low price export restrictions created. I'm not 100% with the ranchers either (some did try to inflate the market), but Kristina coudn't help her peronist populism and screwed the market and now she is paying for it.

Actually the best thing for all of those issues is a vegetarian diet, not different kinds of animal flesh.

That is actually not a very good solution for Argentina. The country that eats around 80kg/person per year.
