The WSJ summed all the jokes up by pretty much saying that after everyone stops joking, people will buy it anyway. Jobs will have the last laugh.
People mocked the iPod names and also were derisive of the original iPhone feature set.

Indeed. In no time iPad will be as normal as iPod (the similarity between those names is IMHO the reason they went with iPad, iso iSlate or something like that) and the jokes are history. I will not buy it yet, I prefer to wait for the G2 version, which hopefully will include WiFi.

WiFi? Do you mean WiMAX? The initial version already has WiFi and Bluetooth, and optionally UMTS. I expect the second-generation unit to replace UMTS with LTE (which will allow use on all GSM carriers except T.Mobile USA, and add Verizon.)

That's indeed the first thing I noticed when I saw that name. That coupled with the fact that this machine has been reported for years now, makes it a very unfortunate combination.

People will find jokes no matter what name is chosen.
"iSlate: Dumb as a rock!" would work for instance.

Well if she "is late", she doesn't need an iPad then!

The whole problem could be avoided if Apple would come out with the iPill.
