Not in a while, but I used to do it all the time, and I have a cache of my own. It's a lot of fun to do. They're everywhere, including a microcache at the Roman Colliseum. I found it when I was there and when I pulled it out of the wall a man walked up and said, "Excuse me, I see you found something in that wall, there?" At first we were nervous but then we saw he had a GPS. It was a German tourist who was doing some geocaching while on vacation. So we handed him the cache and went on our way. I doubt this will happen to you, but it's a funny story nonetheless.

There are a lot of items in the hills/mountains around LA, and I've participated a few times. It's a good time.

I don't yet have a GPS unit, but I have done with my brother and his kids. It was fun. I have tried looking around here, but, without GPS, it is near impossible!

Been doing it for about 7-8 years now. We're not the ultra-serious type of cachers that have found thousands, but we typically use it as a way to go off the beaten path when we're out of town. We try to get the trailer out and go camping once/month, so we'll look at what caches are within 10-15 miles of the campground and try to hit 5-10 of them while we're there. There are good ones and bad ones out there, but you can typically tell that by reading the descriptions.
