Where have you been for the last, oh, ten years?

Google is (in)famous for pulling April Fool's stunts. So much to the point that they are the first ones to come to mind when I think of April Fool's.

Yes, Google pulls many April Fools jokes. They have even altered their Google Maps Australia page to give directions in "Aussie Speak"...as in "chuck a left at 5th street" or "turn a smidge left on Muulurra Drive". My favorite are the toll roads..."ya may have have to cough up some cash along here"

Anyways, the image is very real. I like the story behind it, the "blog" entry when you click on the TOPEKA headline name, what with the correct way to use the name - "Before the blind date I did a Topeka search on him" being good, and "Before the blind date I topeka'ed him on Alta Vista" being bad.

I currently live and work just east of Topeka, and we have gotten a kick over March of the city being renamed Google to attract the new high speed Internet network. This could be the best marketing Topeka has ever gotten...that being said, the city is just an awful, awful, awful, awful, awful place.

Rumour has it that the Kiwis and Welsh have been lobbying Google to block the sheep to English functionality.

It isn't. Google, er, I mean, Topeka execs found a change necessary since Google is now a verb in addition to being a noun. Google is just too common a name to be worthy of such a company so that's why they changed the name to Topeka.

They are also moving their corporate headquarters, server farm, and what not to Google, Kansas. The jet will be traded in for magical beans.

They just removed the vowels. I thought that was hilarious.

The time it takes for a search is today being reported converted to various other exotic time units. Look in the upper right corner after a search it where it usually says "Results 1 - 10 of about nnnn for yyyy (0.xyz seconds)".
