Oh my. I literally was on it just a couple minutes ago. I closed it out before I saw this thread. I'm reading the announcement right now.

Sad day. Thanks, Justin. It was an awesome website.

I was on there just a few hours ago and it was operating as normal. After reading the message that is posted there now, it appears that someone is forcing him to shut it down. Although he mentioned that its not Delta's doing this time. Who else would want to shut the website down???

I second these thoughts!!, Justin thanks again, the site was very informative and up to date. Certainly not an easy task with all the changes Delta has been making in the last few years.

I remember many times spotting Delta aircraft with the new 07 livery and making note of them. Later going to widgetheads.net only to find that he already had noted them as having the new 07 livery on his site.

I certainly hope he stays here on Anet. though.

Obviously a great deal of care and love went into that website, but the nature of the detailed fleet information shared on it certainly raises some serious issues about protecting corporate information for both competitive and security reasons.

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

A sad loss of a tremendously valuable and interesting website.

Something does seem really fishy about the way its written. I agree, it really does sounds like someone is forcing him to shut down. Even though he says it has nothing to do with DL, I am suspicious...

Cheers!

That is the distinct impression I got as well, but I don't know who besides DL would care and be able to shut the site down.

all the info that was posted after he started it again(after DL shut it down the first time) can be found on line pretty easy. Heck a n-number seach shows 60% of it. Boeing.com shows a good chunk, Delta.com and then a few other places like airfleets show the rest. Ship numbers and such are on the aircraft.

All i have to say is MSPspotters........you guys better watch out. Delta is doing stupid things again.

(i would say they may go after airfleets but they seem to leave the ones you pay money to alone....hmmmmm)

guess Delta doesn't want AA to find they have RR Trent 895s on there 777s. I mean good gosh, they could make Delta bleed mopney if they found such stuff out. Shit 7109 just made its first flights OH CRAP the cat is out of the bag now. Darn widgetheads.

yep.

It may not be Delta per say but i would be my left......leg......DL is behind it. DL could have got TSA or something like that into it.

*note I do not know why it is gone I'm saying what i think happened.

You also don’t know for a fact and shouldn’t speculate since the person who operated the site said it was not Delta.

We will not find out a reason this time, and will just have to deal with it.

Shouldn't speculate....on airliners.net!?

Thanks for the laugh.

Cheers!

PS: this is a non-aviation topic? Por que? It seems like this is more fitting in either Civ-Av or aviation hobby...

Now all that is there at the URL is a Go-Daddy place marker. That was quick. You would think that they would have left the shut down notice up for a few days.

I agree, this thread should be in the Civil Av section.

To Everyone:

It has nothing to do with Delta, and has not been forced upon me by any person or corporation. Please stop speculating such things. Call it a personal choice that can not be undone.

What do you mean? The notice is still up. And will remain up for some time. At one point it will be taken down. However I will make it clear now: The widgetheads.net domain will ALWAYS remain in my control. I will not be selling it to anyone, including Delta Air Lines. So please don't ask. I will renew the domain name for the rest of my life. Period. Perhaps at some point down the line the site will be back online, but please do not count on it.

I'm truly sorry I can't give more info. I hope everyone is doing well without Widgetheads.

Take Care,
Justin

Ah ha, I was going to http://www.widgetheads.com/, rather than www.widgetheads.net. That's why I got the Go-Daddy page.
I now see your letter.
Thanks for providing the good service over the past years.
