I am surprised there is not yet a thread about this. After the Gulf giant spill now it's a refinery mega-explosion in China.
Talk about ecological disasters.
Towering inferno at Pudong refinery
Two massive explosions and an ensuing fire with towering flames ripped through an oil refinery in the Pudong New Area yesterday.
"The flames were higher than the three-story building in front of the plant," said Hu Qisheng, who runs a bike-repair stall next to the site in Gaoqiao Town.
The 230,000 barrel-per-day refinery is one of China's largest and its owned by Sinopec, China's largest oil refining corporation.
Shanghai: A fire at a storage tank at the Gaoqiao oil refinery in Shanghai's industrial Pudong district has been extinguished after an explosion on Sunday morning sent black smoke billowing into the sky.
The fire was at a naphtha storage tank, with a capacity of about 1,000 tonnes, a Sinopec media officer told Reuters, adding that there would be no impact on production.
