President Obama was planning a trip to Asia (Indonesia) and Australia for political talks with those countries back in March of 2010, however he had post-poned his trip because he wanted Health Care Reform to pass as it did. So Obama will be traveling to Guam (I believe he will be landing at Anderson AB), then he will visit Indonesia and Australia the upcoming weeks in June 2010. I believe he will be taking his kids with him and his wife. I wonder if there had been any other time in American history where both the President and Vice President were both out of the country at the same time, because VP Biden is traveling to Africa also around the time when Obama is leaving.

Who is next in "line" to govern then, should something happen to them both ?

I hope we don't have to be to inconvenienced by his visit, traffic wise that is. Getting around on the roads now is bad enough thanks !!

Anyway, I should say that Prime minister Rudd, will need a fan like President Obama, here in Australia, considering this being an election year, at least he'll get 1 vote !

Hopefully they don't have the FA-18s circling around the clock like they did when GWB was here.

If I didn't like Australia so much, I'd say "Keep him"!

If the President and Vice President were to both die, the Speaker of the House would be in line succession to be the President, after that it would be the Pro-tempore of the US Senate and then the Secretary of Defense and so forth, there is a long list of like 13 total people who would be in succession in line to be President if the President and Vice President were to die, (which is very rare to occur). Air Force One does not fly with military escort anymore. It has its own classified top secret defense capabilities (that I cannot talk about) to defend against airborne missiles, etc.

As far as Bidens trip, Africa is a pretty hostile area due to terrorism and other dangerous rivalries in those countries, but I am sure it took about a month or more for the US Secret Service to prepare his security apparatus and detail in Egypt, Kenya, and South Africa.

Poor Kev doesn't have all that many buddies these days - even his 'working families' are starting to abandon him. At least Barry will give him a shoulder to cry on.

That is just too scary to even contemplate!

Gosh things must be bad.

Anyway, big Kev will have to do with a cardboard cut out instead of Obama..... poor Kev, left hanging at the alter again !!

Goodness gracious!!!  Wow! not again, this is the second time he might be delaying his trip. Yes things are bad here in the U.S., because of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Obama will possibly cancel or delay his trip to Australia. Man it must be a lot of work for the Secret Service overseas working on his security detail, they have to prepare the security apparatus for the venues, then they think he will be coming for sure, then the President cancels his trip, what a mess for everyone including the Air Force.

Probably but as I posted in the "blockade thread" the reaction of Indonesia to Obama's lack of reaction probably meant that the Indonesian part would have had to be cancelled anyway.

They had major security out for Bali. But IIRC there have been some demos against Obama in March before this latest ruckus. Or so I am told by my local monitor of Berita Indonesia on SBS.

So the oil crisis might be a bit "convenient" in that respect at least.

Yes well "working famliies" should have been banned close to a year ago, but then again "a great big new tax" should also be banned - instanter if not sooner.

I doubt we will see Obama this year. India in Sept. It was very "convenient" to slip in a trip to Aus while visiting Indonesia, but I fear he might now be as welcome in Indonesia as Bibi will be in Ankara and Aus would be collateral fallout.
