All Australians will mourn the loss of Ruth Cracknell .. actress who died yesterday, age 76.

In 1998 she was named as one of Australia's 100 Living National Treasures by the National Trust.

Yes, some mothers DO have them.

May she RIP, she was a rose among thorns....

Very sad, but, as Garry McDonald said, a release, as she had been very ill since late last year. She was a genuine Australian star - funny, imperious, dramatic - a giant among actors. For those outside Oz, Ruth was renowned most for her stage and TV work here over many years - her forays into movies were few and far between.  Crying  Big thumbs up

Guys,

I must say I was shocked to learn of her demise today like everyone else. She was a brilliant actress who shone on the stage everytime she performed.

Australia has lost a goddess of theatre.

May she RIP.

mb *sad*

I believe Ruth Cracknell was one of the last true, original actresses left in Australia. The current crop of actors and actresses is without any real stars, and the death of Ruth Cracknell is a great loss to Australia.

RIP

ADG, Mx5-boy, DASA, I think this calls for a commemmorative and respectful glass of champagne, and a toast to a great lady!
(For the info of non-Australians, she also wrote some magical books, based on her travels in Italy with her husband).
Cheers
Bill
