So would he hit it? Can there be any doubt!

Sorry, but this dude needs to understand you get yourself elected BEFORE you start playing games. Then the lobbyists will get you the real thing.

To me, the Democrats didn't really care about putting up a possibly competitive canidate in SC for US Senate as they figured to waste money or a person on a race they expect to lose badly to a well established incumbent Republican. That opened up this 'stelth' canidate Alvin Green just to have someone on the ballot space in November. Too bad this loser ended up being the token canidate on 2 levels including that he is African American. His foolish canidaicy just makes the Democrats look bad all over the USA and gives ammo to Republicans to bash Democrats.

Greene was charged by police in November with showing pornographic material to a female University of South Carolina student on a computer in the school's library.
The alleged victim, according to university police, also said Greene asked if he could come to her room.

... what kind of a charge is this anyway? That female student... she should grow a thicker skin and/or learn how to spell "no thanks I'm not interested". It's not that he kicked and dragged her into his room - he asked her. Seriously

What happened to "Freedom of Speach" ? Is the constution suspended?

That's an interesting indictment. Reminds me back in the 70s when some of us in a mixed group on a beach in Long Island where asked to leave, including the girls, because of indicent remarks. What we did, we qualified the female attributes of some ladies - in German, not in English. Man, have we been lucky not to end up in jail.

Now, this guy does not seem to be the brightest bulb in the box but when this gets you into trouble with the law enforcement agencies in the US then there's something wrong with the country. That guy does not seem to be qualified for the job as a politician representing his state. But petty stuff like that should not even raise an eyebrow of a police officer.

It's not always a concrete line between protected Free Speech and obscenity, indecency. It seems like a personal harassment charge might have obtained in this case as well.

The thing I'm wondering now about this Alvin Greene character is, has he been checked out by the mental health people? His "inability to perform basic tasks" while he was in the service, his apparent non-understanding that you don't upload sensitive material to the Web, and his campaign platform of raising government revenues by marketing action figures of himself all make a basic MH evaluation seem in order.

I can understand that subjecting someone to porn without their consent is bad, but I didn't think it would land you in jail.

What consequences would there be for showing porn to someone (that you did not know and just walked up to on the street) and inviting her to your room, in Lebanon?

No idea, most probably a hostile reaction from that person, and anyone who knows them. Laws aren't very clear here and the judicial system and the police aren't what they are in the US, because of this perceived inefficiency people sometimes lack trust in the system and an avoid it except for grave cases.

Also note that it is not clear in the article whether he knows this person or not.

BTW, since we're on the topic, my girlfriend had a guy lower his pants and show his genitals next to her car window, while she was in the car with her friend. The guy then ran back to his car and drove away as soon as she moved the car. She followed his car a bit. Later, she said that same guy came back out of nowhere and followed her car for a while. She took his car number, but did not press charges later. That must have been around 8 months ago.

She also told me about another instance of a guy showing off in public, from far away. Another girl I know in Lebanon also told me about a guy jerking off in plain view of her, in his car.

In all these cases, it wasn't reported.

If it would have haoppened to my mother (even in her younger years), the guy would either have received a slap, which would have made his head fly to the other side of the room, or a really caustic remark, which would have left him thouroughly embarrased. E.g. back in the 1970s, while walking in a park, she encountered an exhibitionist, who approached her with a hard on. She gave his member a glance, lookewd him straight into his face and told him that he needed to get washed. The guy was suffering of "wet spaghetti syndrome" afterwards.
With my sister, well in Kairo, Egypt, she beat up three young men, who tried to grope her (they didn´t know that she was seriously into karate at this time, now she is an aikido black belt).
But I don´t think that any of them would have filed a lawsuit.

I sometimes find it hard to believe, but in this case there were witnesses. I guess that yeah, there are quite some perverts, and not only perverts but cowards too, because I didn't see any myself, presumably because they don't dare doing anything when there is a guy around.

I wish I was with my girlfriend when that happened. But I'm not sure she needed my help, she would probably run the guy over if necessary, and she did well. It still sucks that she would be subjected to that. I'm glad to know that this stuff happens elsewhere too, and that some people got their ass kicked over it

I was thinking, maybe it is right to report it, after all. I'm a bit hesitant, on one side I used to see exhibitionism as a harmless thing, on the other side it can seem aggressive and cause distress.

I'm not saying I agree, but how else would this guy suddenly be able to afford $10,000 and conveniently have sex-based charges filed against him AND be black?

Registered Democrats in South Carolina don't really care about the senate seat because they know they don't have a chance of winning against the incumbent? I'm talking out of my ass, but the people who vote in the primary maybe just randomly chose this guy or knew of him and picked him as a joke as they didn't have much hope anyway, or... tin foil hat time! Republicans stuffed the ballot boxes!

Even better, he had no campaign website, attended zero campaign events, didn't talk to the local DNC at all. In fact, the only thing he did at all, was to register his campaign and pay the 10 grand that he had saved up while in the military.

And yet, he beat a guy who had paid for 220.000 robo-calls and 250.000 emails, and who had been out on the campaign trail for quite a while.

My question was tongue-in-cheek. I once asked for a non-alcoholic beer in Greenville SVC after learning that they don't serve alcohol on Sundays. I did not get that either since there is a residue alcohol left-. Which means, SC is more backwards than Saudia Arabia where you can drown in that stuff. (No offence, dear Saudis).

Now that I know what else can get you into jail there I better stay away completely.

But the stuff with the dolls really tops it off. That's also called Voodoo economics.
