One of the joys of news.google.com is that you get some wild links from time to time.

The Topic comes from:

"Top 50 Dumbest Conservative Quotes"

http://thestir.cafemom.com/in_the_ne...top_50_dumbest_conservative_quotes

And, of course, the California line was Dan Quayle.

In fairness I'll also note there is also one on Liberals linked.

such as:

Quote:
Al Gore on zoology: "A zebra does not change its spots."
http://thestir.cafemom.com/in_the_news/109417/50_dumb_liberal_quotes

Both are worth laughing over, but the Conservatives are, IMHO, funnier.

I disagree: While conservative may say funny things, liberals say stupid things.

A few recent examples: Nancy Pelosi: "We have to pass the bill to find out whats in it." V.P. Joe Bidden: "This is the summer of recovery." Harry Reid: "There are no illegal aliens working on construction projects in may state."

Example of a funny conservative quote:

From Paul Gann, who wrote California Proposition 13 and died of AIDs that he contracted through a blood transfusion: "Why do they call themselves 'gay' when they always seem to be 'mad' about something".

Oh really? Take off your conservative colored glasses and read the following 4 quotes from the link provided by the OP:

"We spent a lot of time talking about Africa, as we should. Africa is a nation that suffers from incredible disease." ~ President George W. Bush
"The only way to reduce the number of nuclear weapons is to use them." ~ Rush Limbaugh
''My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that. And so what you've got to do is you've got to curtail that type of behavior. They don't know any better.'' ~ South Carolina Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, arguing against government food assistance for poor residents.
''The greatest threat to America is not necessarily a recession or even another terrorist attack. The greatest threat to America is a liberal media bias.'' ~ Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX)
"Ground Zero Mosque supporters: doesn't it stab you in the heart, as it does ours throughout the heartland? Peaceful Muslims, pls refudiate." ~ Sarah Palin

Each of them is a funny quote, yes, but each is also profoundly stupid. Do you honestly believe otherwise?

Oh and by the way, this quote that you used as a supposed example that conservative quotes are only funny, but not stupid is, itself, remarkably stupid, and as a gay man, I can also tell you that it is incredibly offensive.

What are you talking about, conservatives say stupid thing all the time. Look at Sharon Angle with Second Amendment remedies for things her ilk doesn't like. How about Michele Bachmann on Obama internment camps. The list goes on and on with conservatives.

No not at all. You don't know me, yet you seem to want to make judgements about whether or not I'm an angry person and then extrapolate from that, that all gay people are angry. That speaks volumes in my book.

Possibly true... some of the liberal quotes just aren't funny.

8. John Kerry on the troops: "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

24. Ted Rall: "Over time, however, the endless war in Iraq began to play a role in natural selection. Only idiots signed up; only idiots died. Back home, the average I.Q. soared."

Seriously? Any reasonably intelligent person would have known right away that the addition of the "e" was a typographical and would not have attempted to correct the child when he spelled potato correctly. That the Vice President did not know the proper spelling of a word as common as potato is indefensible.

Politicians say the dumbest things. Problem is, when any politician on the right says something, it is "taken out of context" by the left but when anyone not in the popular right-wing movements says anything, that is what they mean and no two ways or taking it out of context. Example:

The sky is blue.

If a right-winger says it, the sky is blue. Period. End of discussion.

If anyone not associated with the popular right-wing says it, that person is forcing views down our throats and wantingn to expand government and a Socialist and elitist because look at how s/he implies that opinion is a fact and how dare they try to force their elitist views on the American people.

Otherwise, politicians say the dumbest things....

Quite true. You see it on this board over and over again, everything a conservative says is taken out of context, everything a liberal said is repeated and interpreted correctly. Case in point, anyone else remember the cries of "out of context" when Rand Paul made his now infamous statements regarding the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Oh and for those defending Sarah Palin's idiotic remark regarding Alaska, no one has ever argued that Alaska is not physically close to Russia or that Tina Fey is the one who turned the quote into "I can see Alaska from my house". Those are not the issues. The fact of the matter is that Palin used Alaska's proximity to Russia as proof that she has foreign policy experience. That is truly, ludicrously, and indisputably moronic.

That said, here's my contribution-

"If you take out the killings, Washington actually has a very low crime rate."

Agreed. People need to stop looking at this from a purely partisan perspective. Politicians of all stripes can and do say stupid things. Of course some are far more prone to idiotic sound bites than others. After all, one of the classic stupid quotes of all time is:
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman."

LOL. Where to begin. That's sort of like saying "well if you don't count the Holocaust, few Jews died in World War II."

Very true, and quite funny given the context that this whole entire thread is a generalization, really.

Why? Because it is based on the fact that [insert party name you don't agree with] says stupid things. Compare the number of stupid things said with the number of other things said, and it probably doesn't amount to a whole heck of a lot.

Just my 2 cents.

Notice how a majority of the conservative quotes are focused on two people where as the liberal quotes cover a very broad spectrum of people. THAT speaks volumes in my book.

At the end of the day, people say incredibly stupid things regardless of race, religion, politics, and/or sex. To say this or that takes the cake as if it proves something is rather elementary in my opinion.

Well when you have two people as dumb as GWB and Sarah Palin, you're invariably going to focus on the idiotic things that they say.  Did you also notice that this "broad spectrum of people" with regards to liberal quotes actually includes a whole lot of celebrities who no one would ever confuse as a "leading liberal voice", while the conservative list is almost all politicians or other "leading conservative voices"? I could just as easily say that this "speaks volumes in my book".

You pretty much just contradicted yourself there. In the quote above, you're essentially implying that the broader spectrum of liberal voices is proof of something.
