Hey guys.

Well, I'm not the resident mac "hater", but more of the resident mac "disliker". Funny how I have to get a mac for some work I am doing now, which now makes my Apple device reach a count of three... iPod touch, Mac mini, and now this. Selling the mini ASAP.

Anyways, I got the 13" MBP, basic model, nothing fancy. I must admit the hardware is very nice, although I'm sure I will eventually learn to accept the quirks of OS X, I'm still not enjoying the OS much. But that is for a different discussion.

Anyways, any suggestions on if I should actually get a screen or case protector for the laptop? I won't be using this laptop much, although when I do, it will be out and about. I have a backpack with a laptop pocket in it, which should keep it relatively safe.

My biggest concern is that Apple prints the serial number so freaking small on the bottom, and I'm afraid even normal usage will scratch over it and the they'll refuse to service the laptop if its really under warranty still.

So... does the unibody scratch or dent much under normal usage? Should I get one of the invisible shield things out there? I hate the gawdy purple and pink and green and blue silicon covers. Or, is it durable enough that I shouldn't worry about it? I don't mind a scratch or two... just so long as its nothing awful from normal usage.

Thanks!

You needn't worry about scratching the serial number off the bottom as even under fairly heavy usage mine hasn't scratched off..

Also even if it did, if you just click the apple logo then go to "about this mac" and finally "more info" the serial number is there anyway

I also have an Incase neoprene case which is great, here's the link:

Thanks

Same with the iPods and iPhones, you can find it in the software - but Apple still won't service them if the easily scratched polished aluminum back is scratched badly enough to make the serial number hard to read.

Sounds like the sleeve for transport / storage should be fine. Thanks!

The unibody aluminum MacBook Pros are very durable. You need not worry about the case itself as long as it doesn't encounter anything too extreme. Of course, you would want to keep it in a case or backpack when actually transporting it.
