He's definitely someone who is a legend amongst A.netters because of Airplane! Well, might as well post this in his honor:

I loved the Naked Gun movies, they were hilarious. Nielson playing across from OJ Simpsons, Priscilla Presley and Ricardo Montalbán were hilarious.

Here's hoping he's having as much fun in the afterlife as he did in this one. Not sad to hear the news but joyful that he is out of his misery. 84 years is a long life and in his case a fruitful one. He will surely be missed by friends and family but they always have the option of watching one of his many films to get a laugh and remember him by. Good luck!
Rumack: The last thing he said to me, "Doc," he said, "some time when the crew is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to get out there and give it all they got and win just one for the Zipper. I don't know where I'll be then, Doc," he said, "but I won't smell too good, that's for sure

Well, I got out my ouija board, and regarding these posts, it said this:
"They are serious; It is true, and don't call me Shirley!"
Mr. Nielson, you are a legendary actor and you certainly will be missed!
"I just want you to tell you, good luck, we're all counting on you." (Airplane!)

-"Oh, that would be me; I've been swimming in raw sewage. I love it! I LOVE IT!" (The Naked Gun 2 1/2)
Heh... You know, Rue McGlanahan passed earlier this year, and now him. They both played Hollingsworths on the finale of The Golden Girls 18 years ago. He played Blanche's Uncle Lucas and married Dorothy to close out the series.

Not only a great late bloomer of a funny man, but known by all of Hollywood and California wineries for being a gentleman and class act all the way. My grandparents ran into him at a tasting many years ago and said he was very accommodating to those who recognized him - indulging in conversation about his TV career for over two hours.
Fortunately he will live on for all of us with his large body of work.

He was also in a really great episode of the M*A*S*H TV show, where Hawkeye and Trapper use their positions as doctors to remove Leslie Nielsen's character from frontline command.
I hadn't heard about this and was also enjoy Naked Gun earlier this evening. It's really too bad, but we all gotta' go sometime. Surely, he will live forever in this community.

To tell you the truth, I didn't think he was that old. Sounds like he was a really great guy. RIP.
