This is going too far. Even though he did something classless and stupid he's just a teenager who didn't deserve to get banned for life from his favorite team. And how the hell can somebody in the UK be arrested for simply making stupid childish remarks ?
So does that mean that insulting the Queen in public would get you hanged ?

and probably wasn't really intended for one-off idiots like this, however ill intentioned their actions.
There are some events in history over here (and probably everywhere) whose impact seems to go much deeper than others, perhaps because of who was involved, or because it was the first such event. Munich 1958 is one of those, because of the people who died and those who lived and the popularity of football at the time. This was a time when the players were very much the boys next door and not the remote millionaires of today.
