That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. 23 per cent is almost failing.
If that's how they want to do tests in WPB, how the hell do they expect to punch the right hole? Maybe they should just start using picture ballots.

...well it's better than damaging their self esteem, right? Besides, since history has proven that...well....people don't learn from it, and are doomed to repeat it over and over. That's just human nature I guess. So why bother? Besides, isn't teaching history a sort of "living in the past"? Why not be revolutionary, visionary, and futuristic thinking?

First, as to the thread title, eat me. At least we don't have to pay people to live here.
As to the senile old voters who couldn't figure out a ballot, I might remind all of you they retired here most likely from wherever you live. You sent us the idiots. They didn't start here.
Secondly, yes the public school systems around Florida are a disgrace...I said Florida not just Palm Beach County. Why? Partially because after the average American reaches a certain age, they don't seem to feel it's their duty to fund public education. After all, they got their kids through school. Why should they worry about funding everyone who came after?
And finally, I truly believe the 51st state of the Union will eventually be South Florida. I predict within 10 years, if the current 'good ol' boy' network in the state capital continues to have a lock on power, Floridians from about Ft. Pierce south will very seriously begin talking forming their own state. The indifference the power brokers in Tallahassee, most of whom are from fine upstanding North and Central Florida God-fearin' redneck stock, have towards the lower half dozen or so counties in this state (populated mostly by Midwest and Northeast retirees and transplants) is stunning. Only the die hard Cuban contingent in Miami plays to the state's right wingers, and the exiles are a dying breed....their children are having children of their own now, and the question of why their schools suck so bad is more pressing than when Fidel is done.
I'm not for a second defending test scores. The public schools are AWFUL in Palm Beach County (they are also predominantly black. Catholic and private schools hold most of the white kids) . And public schools tend to suck in Lee County. And Brevard County. And even the county where our fearless leader Jebby lives. Of course he doesnt have to send his kids to them, does he?

This has to be among the top ten best thread titles of all times!
Heavymetal..."bite me" and a gratuitous swipe at Gov. Bush won't cut it. Florida has been dominated by good ole boy, Democrat politicians for decades. A few years in office versus several decades...hmmm, I wonder who is to blame for the endemic problems within that state......
Finally, the voters supposedly confused by a ballot...BULLSH*T. That ballot was designed by Democrats for Democrats, in the city of Chicago back in the 1960s, and approved once again by the Democrat-controlled election board in Palm Beach County. The fact of the matter is, the whole confusion thing was a tactic the Gore campaign had planned on using for a while...see of Fox News or the Chicago Tribune still has the articles about the campaign memos in their archives. It was basically some guy in the parking lot telling old ladies that they may have punched the wrong line. Then, a bunch of old ladies from New York and New Jersey, relocated to Florida, get their big mouths on TV "OH MY GAWWWWWWD! I voted for Pat Buchanan!" Panic ensues, and when it is questioned, the confused people are asked if they punched line 5 or line 6....I could not even remember what line I punched, for Godsakes, but that doesn't mean I punched the wrong line! Besides, if you are too stupid to punch a whole in a card, should the country's fate be decided by your vote?
Southside Irish...our two teams are the White Sox and whoever plays the Cubs!

It's not 'good ol' Democrat' policies that bow down to the exiles and allow every dirt poor Cuban who can make it here to stay, putting a severe drain on public resources. Maybe all those inner city welfare moms of the 70s and 80s should have formed anti-communist lobbies and ranted about how they hated Fidel. Suddenly they would have gone from 'liberal charity cases' to 'patriotic freedom lovers worthy of receiving government help'.
And Jeb Bush runs a state that can't even keep track of a foster kid, let alone fix his schools. He can fix elections, but not schools. And before you consult this week's right wing playbook, it was more than just hanging chads that gave this state to the ol' Rhodes scholar up there in the White House.
You can blame whoever you want for this state's past. I blame Jeb Bush for wanting to keep it there.

Good news! I attended Palm Beach County schools for the past 12 years! I just graduated on Tuesday. As for this thread, I have no idea who takes this test and how. We have been on the 100-94 A, 93-85 B, 84-77 C, 76-70 D, and 69-0 F scale since last year when Gov Bush finally changed it to 100-90-80-70-60-0. Our semester and final exams are also graded on this scale.
As for the schools, like Heavymetal said, most of them are filled with minority kids. The white kids either move out west to the area where I live (Wellington), or they attend magnet/IB schools. My school has now become overpopulated with an attendance of 3600. Minority students have to be bused in from other areas due to our predominantly white neighborhood.
There is a big difference when you step into an honor class as opposed to a regular class. There are a lot of jerks as well as real bright guys. Each school has plenty of smart kids. However, if I were to always have had AP and honor classes, I'd be saying to you all that this is bullshit and the kids here are all real bright. But having taken some regular classes (due to schedule conflicts ofcourse, problem with us art students) I can say there are plenty of dumbasses.
As for the election, everyone I knew said it was confusing. Republicans and Democrats alike said they understand how someone could mess up and vote for the wrong person.
As for the statement, "...if you are too stupid to punch a whole in a card, should the country's fate be decided by your vote?"
No where in the Constitution does it limit the rights of people who are stupid. If they are citizens, they should be able to vote for the person they want, even if they are to stupid to punch a hole. Just my opinion.
Are the people of West Palm dumber than the rest of the country? No, probably not, but they could drive a lot better.
BTW, the PBC Schoolboard is a bunch of idiots.
Sometimes I go about in pity for myself and all the while a great wind carries me across the sky.

Thats crazy! I still don't get the french grading system. Over here everything is on 20 (20/20=100)
But 10/20 is passing, and they'll let you slide with 9/20!? Thats like saying a 50/100 is a passing grade!!!
