Ucla Student's Racist Rant - Punishment?

Apparently the brass at UCLA are unsure of how to handle a rather incendiary video posted by a frustrated bimbo, who has apparently capitalized on the tsunami disaster to bring herself attention, for better or worse. Thing is, I don't really see how they can punish her, as I doubt "making an ass of oneself on YouTube" is part of the UCLA code of conduct.

In any case, a stupefying example of living up to the bimbo stereotype, though she got one point from the vocabulary judge for using "epiphany". WTF though, should CA taxpayers have to continue picking up the tab for her education??

Officials at the University of California, Los Angeles, are evaluating what to do about a white student who posted a video on YouTube mocking her fellow Asian classmates and criticizing them for calling family members in the library following the tsunami.

I'm not even sure punishing her will be necessary. Her shots of getting a legitimate career just went down in flames after this little rant. She's proved to all the internets that she's a self-important, racist, xenophobic bitch. Since she's passing out judgment, so will I--she strikes me as the type that goes to college on daddy's money, is always "there for the party" but never for class...etc. You know the type--the one that if you ask their major, they invariably say "yah, I'm pre-med" or "pre-law," but don't ever amount to anything more than an LPN or paralegal (if that much).

If anything I think this earthquake and tsunami has really shown how great and strong the Japanese people really are at their core. There's no looting, no rioting. Heartbreaking activities are done orderly and with the same care with which they are done even in the best of times. They put SOME of the victims of Katrina to shame, that's for sure.

There is no doubt that there is a lot of abusive, inappropriate and rude use of mobile phones and in the case of this woman, she may observe that there may be a disproportionate rude use of them by certain identifiable groups of people. Some of the students she did complain about may be trying to understandably deal with a terrible crises and are desperate to find information from friends, family and believe their needs are far more important than the quiet enjoyment of the library by others. What if the group of students she was complaining about were those from the Middle Eastern countries where major uprisings against the leaders there are taking place and a thirst of direct information as to what is going on?

The problem with her very open rant and poor choice of words is that many Colleges do not want to make any group uncomfortable to be there. They may need the revenues from such students, especially those from outside the country as well as prevent confrontations between students which can be detrimental to the entire school. If she had made her point by noting that a wide range of students are using cell phones in the library in violation of college rules but without the poor choice of words, then the school wouldn't have to consider how to punish her. A comment in the article also noted that by making such a public and offensive statement, she may have badly hurt her future employment opportunities.

Modern technology sometimes expands in use faster than society can keep up with new rules to prevent misuse, abuse and rudeness in it's use.

As far as I'm concerned, the joke's on her. Think about the sheer number of people who immediately peg her as a dumb, ditzy blond incapable of harboring the intelligence to attend a school such as UCLA. Funny how stereotypes work. Besides, it's no secret that Asians make up just over 1/3 of the student body at UCLA. Perhaps she should have chosen to attend a different school.

What a dumb moron, I saw half of that rant and immediately felt dumber. She should do herself a favor and try not to stereotype other people, when she herself is a walking stereotype (Dumb Ditzy blonde girl with big tits). She's even dumber now because guaranteed everyone probably hates her on campus right now, except for maybe the other few...very few dumb ditzy blonde girls on campus.

If that's the case...complain to the library workers, that's what they're there for. Furthermore, maybe she could have built up a little courage and gone over to the Asian people and asked them to please take their conversations outside. Indeed she has a right to say whatever she wants, but let's see how that works out when she needs a job in future. Stuff like this doesn't go away. Hey, maybe she'll join the jersey shore and everything will be alright, god knows she'd fit right in.

I don't really see what the University can do to punish her - she was speaking her mind, and even if what she was saying was hideous, she is entitled to express those hideous thoughts. Likewise, the general public is also entitled to think she is an ugly human being, and certainly entitled to express to her those sentiments.

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if most were at least second-generation immigrants, or immigrated to the US when they were fairly young.

Pretty stupid rant, but the schools responsibility to do something? Please. This ranks so low in the "racism" genre, it's not even worth mentioning. Ironically, Asians are about the most racist group of people anybody is ever going to meet. They look down on everybody, especially other types of Asians and some more so than others.

Before all the knees jerk, I've been living with and married to Asians for many years. Love 'em, but it is the truth. Unfortunately, race differences cannot be discussed rationally without being called a racist.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. I highly doubt anyone could pick her out of a lineup. I know I sure couldn't and I only watched the video an hour ago. That being said, she might get a little extra attention on the UCLA campus, but that'll pass soon enough.

Mind you, I wasn't exactly paying a whole lot of attention to her face.......

Oh no, it's far more than that. It extends to very well educated born-in-America Asians as well. I have seen it fist hand. It just isn't often seen in public as they are a more private people.

And that is the crux of it. Everybody harbors racist views, some more than others, we are just trained now to keep them to ourselves. I find those who are so quick to point the racism finger are probably among the worst in the latent-racism camp.
