Destroying Lamborghini with Sledgehammers

"A disgruntled Chinese millionaire who clearly had enough of his expensive, but problematic, Lamborghini Gallardo took out his frustration by hiring a crew to destroy the posh car in front of stunned spectators.

The cruel public execution took place Tuesday to mark World Consumer Rights Day."

I wondered how long it would take for it to make its way here.

More money than sense. And probably already has a down-payment on the new Ferrari Four. It smacks of having too much money!

How much money will he make selling the videos or images to websites, newspapers, TV and other media...

Part of me cringes.

Part of me thinks "It's only a Gallardo, there are thousands more. Literally. It's not like he tore up a Miura or an Islero."

And if the offending owner thinks a Gallardo is troublesome, he should be glad it isn't 1975.

I saw this in the local paper this morning, before I read the caption I thought smoeone had been caught up in a protest and they took it out on his car...

After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Exactly. I'm a car enthusiast and will not shed a tear over this. If anything, good for him. The Gallardo is only a car for poseurs anyhow.

I'm grateful for that. If millionaires didn't waste their money into oblivion, how would the economy run?

No such thing.

I would agree that Ferraris and Porsches are cars for people who like to drive fast cars and Lambos are for people who want to be seen driving a fast car if not for the fact that the performance of Lamborghinis is very much legit.

That's very ironic considering how Lamborghini got started.

Good grief-

This video actually speaks loudly for either the construction quality of the bodywork of Lamborghini, or the feebleness of Chinese "destroyers" or both.

1. Watching eight uniformed sledgehammer swingers climb on and flail at the car for about 3:00 minutes, with the exception of a couple of louvres, the tail lights, and a couple of windows, the car remains not only intact but actually appears to be in decent shape. Nothing a little bondo can't fix.

2. These 'goons' have absolutely no understanding of the basic rules of leverage. They grasp the end of the sledgehammer handle at the end with one hand and hold the handle half-way up the shaft with the other. The hammers bounce off the car as though they were made of rubber.

It seems the car was second hand, and came from Japan at a suspiciously cheap price.

Indeed.
For those not familiar with the story, rich farm tractor manufacturer Ferruccio Lamborghini (think of him as the Italian "John Deere") bought a new Ferrari and had several problems with it, particularly in the area of reliability. Mr. Lamborghini arranges a meeting with Enzo Ferrari and proceeds to make several suggestions for improvements to Ferrari cars. Mr. Ferrari responds with words to the effect of "If you know so much much about building sports cars, then why don't you go build them yourself?", and Mr. Lamborghini did exactly that.

I was actually thinking the same thing. The car withstood a lot of pounding from sledgehammers and still looks pretty decent.

Seriously...
God forbid he sell/donate the car and send the proceeds to a worthy non-profit organization.... wait, wasn't there a big event or something that happened in a nearby country like 4 days before the car was destroyed..? I could've sworn that I saw something in the papers.

Or...
"If millionaires helped feed and educate the impoverished people of the world, how would they still afford to waste their money into oblivion?"

The other part of that story was that Ferruccio Lamborghini had one of his mechanics take the clutch apart to see what was wrong with it only to discover it was the same model (some places say it was the same but not as tough) that he used in his tractors.

It's quite symptomatic for these "new money" hotshots that they have enough cash for a second-hand Lambo but not enough intelligence to realize that no money will buy them class.
