don't people know those things are false? And how exactly is it legal? By what law or loophole?

Tabloids can be entertaining reading in the checkout lane in a supermarket (depending on your taste in tabloids, of course).

My favourite tabloid to read in checkout lanes was Weekly World News (the now-defunct black-and-white rag); it dealt with aliens, Batboy, and other weird, warped, funny material. I even "found out" that many of our congress members are aliens!

Too bad WWN is gone now.

It was the only tabloid I really enjoyed. It was a real laugh. That is what the whole point of WWN (as well as the Onion newspaper)--it was for laughs, nothing else.

The other tabloids have held no interest for me--they are nothing but celebrity trash rags.

Week World News is now only online.

Two reasons. Either they like looking at the pictures (especially the ones with scantily dressed ladies), or have lost their glasses so appreciate the extra large fonts taking up much of the text space. Beyond that I have no idea.

They are the cheapest, and poorer people can not afford a more expensive paper.
Well, that was the case until "i" rolled off the presses.

People are probably bored and/or have no life...

I read the headlines, get a good chuckle out of the, and move on with living...

"Dr. Phill kicked out!" Yeah, that's nice, like I'd give a $hit anyway even if it were remotely true, hahaha. Ok, now to spend a portion of my paycheck on diet green tea, granola bars, and cheerios and then on to something else called my life...

Tabloids are basically the same thing as TV trash or TV series.
They play an important social role of getting a human being back to his/her own comfortable zone after day time life full of stresses, negative information and anxiety.

For example, I have to stay at computer from 6 pm till midnight.
At 11.00 pm I switch off all phones - as I simply have no voice to talk after a working day.
At midnight I close Internet connections.
Then I have light dinner while watching sci-fi series downloaded to computer: 3-4 episodes in the row.
After 2 hours with "Star Trek" or "Star Gate" - I feel relaxed enough to go to bed at 3 o'clock in the morning.

I don't see any difference between my routine and reading tabloids.

lol.

Tabloids are a bit of light entertainment. If you don't like them, don't buy them. Don't bitch about people being stupid by reading them though.
