What do you guys think? VW just unveiled it...personally I think it looks vastly better than the current model.

Enjoy!

While I wouldn't buy one myself, I quite like the current model, its different then anything else on the road and has the lines of its heritage. I was talking to one of the salesmen at our dealership a few weeks ago about the 2012 model while my Jetta was being serviced but there weren't any pictures out at that time. It looks quite nice, but a little too Audi TTish IMHO.

I like it, looks modern, fresh and would make a good second car if I didn't need 4 doors.

It's nice but I'll stick to my '68 1300 thanks.

As nice as that one up there is it's just a Golf in a pretty frock.

I've come to not expect much from Volkswagen lately, but I think this (but just barely and not completely) makes up for the utter snoozefest that the US market 6th gen Jetta and Passat are.

Yeah, but a Golf is about as boring as you can get. Take the basically good things about the Golf and put it in a nicer styling package and you got something.

Aye, you get a Scirrocco

The new beetle looks like something Chrysler would have come up with.
The lowered roofline and longer looks especially. I think it has a Chrylser vibe to it. I think the side view is reminescent of the PT Cruiser styling.

Since they came out with the new beetle in 1999 we've always known that. It's more evident in this new redesign.

Looks like a chubby Porsche.

I like it, though, just hope it's not as decontented as the worthless new Jetta.

The powers that be decided that us Americans don't get a Scirrocco. So the NB is the next best thing.

How is this any different from the current beetle? It just looks a little flattened/squashed. Actually it looks like a hybrid between a Porsche and a PT cruiser

Definitely an improvement over the current one. I wouldn't be too embarrassed to be seen in the new version, unlike the first New Beetle. The (old) New Beetle had waaaay too much estrogen all over it.

Still, I much rather get a GTI over this.

Meh - I loved the idea of the original "New Beetle" (my first car was a '57 Beetle Special), but its fashion status tired quickly, although sales limped on. Give me a Scirocco any day for a 2d!

Actually, saying that Porsches look like chubby Volkswagen is closer to the truth.

Agreed. I'd say more along those lines, but Fly2HMO already said what I was gonna say almost word-for-word, including making reference to the excessive estrogen content of the current New Beetle:

True, but now it's a Golf in a frock that's actually attractive and suited to it's mission in life. The previous New Beetle was a little too self-consciously "cutesie-poo", kind of like Baby Jane Hudson trying to recreate her vaudeville act 40 years after it went stale.

The (New) New Beetle does seem to have a foreshortened early 911 Carrera look about it.

Nice interior finish - but why not just buy a Golf instead?

Probably much more practical and cheaper too. Plus it doesn't have what we tend to call here the "latte set" image.

So if you take it to the extreme why should anyone buy a TT, A3, Q3, Octavia, Yeti, Superb, Altea, Leon, Toledo, Jetta, Tiguan, Eos, Sirocco, Caddy, Touran, they should just buy a Golf!

I like it, if kids are not an option in two years when my lease runs out I definetly consider that one otherwise it will be a Jetta or Passat

It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

Um because it is not a golf. Most people buy a car based on what the exterior looks like.

This is a huge improvement. If I did not have a big dog it would be something I would love to have.
