It was just "random" thugs attacking passengers. And by random I mean young black men.

I'm not too familiar with Atlanta, but it's my reasoned guess those aren't the high-rent districts.

Southwest ATL sure isn't. Northwest ATL is very, very nice in some areas - probably the place you'd go if looking for a nice place. Still doesn't mean that there aren't not-so-nice areas within the area, though.
