It seems to me that there are no favorties for this world cup - or can you think of any team with 2 good games so far ?

Brasil
- average-bad performance vs. Turkey, won only because of a wrong PK
- performance vs. China average so far

Argentina
- average vs. Nigeria
- bad vs. England

Italy
- good vs. Ecuador
- average-bad vs. Croatia

France
- bad vs. Senegal
- average vs. Urugay, stupid red card and bad in the finish

England
- one half vs. Sweden average, one half bad
- average vs. Argentina, good defense but harmless in the attack, won because of a wrong PK

Germany
- perfect against a very bad Saudi Arabia
- bad against Ireland after a good start

Yeah, 4-0 MUST be average Insane They don't need to be special today.

Bollocks. England easily could have scored twice more, and foot up contact in the box is automatically a penalty.

You can tell it is a weird world cup because the US actually won a game.

Hey Racko, be careful what you say about England's penalty. There are a lot of touchy people here who take offence to any criticism of "Brittania's" victory, albeit by a very 55:45 penalty call. This cup definitely doesn't have a clear favourite as it stands now, to be honest, Brazil doesn't really look good.
I expect England to succumb to either Nigeria or in the second round, the rest............your guess is as good as mine.

777236ER,

when I wrote my post it was 1-0 for Brasil and they didn't dominate like they did later in the game. That's why I wrote so far.

"and foot up contact in the box is automatically a penalty."

Then we would have many penalties in every game...
The english players had 2 more chances, the shot by Owen was close, Sheringhams shot wasn't. 3 chances in a game is not that much, is it ? They defended their 1-0 and didn't really try to score their second goal.

"What about Spain?"

Spain has always prooved to be absolutely harmless in World Cups, their league is strong, their national team isn't.

Well, actually the USA have improved over the last years. I noticed that already in the Germany-USA friendly game, especially their technique is better than 4 years ago.

The thread is about which teams are - and are not - looking good now. That leaves Spain and, and ... well Spain. History is history, the 'historical' champs France, are going home early remember.

I´m thinking pretty much the same, Racko. Add Portugal to that list who always seem to be a dark horse with their "golden generation".
I don´t really know what to think of it. Italy was not that bad, they had two regular (as far as I could see) goals disallowed.

RE: Brazil - even with 4-0, that was average at best. China were completely harmless. Against such a team, anything less than 8-0 is embarrassing  Wink/being sarcastic  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Korea
Against Poland: Good, at first though, Poland could have scored. But at the end, Korea could have scored 2 goals.
Against USA: Not yet known
Against Portugal: Not yet known

The biggest mistake made by most human beings: Listening to only half, understanding just a quarter and telling double.
