Why Is The The Casey Anthony Trial So Popular?

I never really quite understood why this trial is being covered so broadly, this is not the first time a mother has is this case "allegedly" killed her child. CNN is covering this trial virtually 24/7 with "America's Prosecutor" Nancy Grace leading the way and the other networks not far behind. This is just like a daytime drama or Soap Opera in real time. Personally I think if Casey was less attractive, an older woman, a guy or even of another race, she would have not gotten the same attention as she does now if not at all. I also think and probably more to the fact that most people who watch this trial as an entertainment venue see it as divergence to the everyday cycle of news in their lives. What do you think attracts the coverage of the trial?

It's not like a soap in my opinion it's more like a CSI kind of event since they used DNA and hair samples or whatever. I haven't been keeping track. Another reason is because the prosecution and defense have entirely different stories that make it like a Law and Order episode too. I think looks do add a little to the TV show kind of story too.

I think it's because of Nancy Grace and HLN. Nancy uses dead children like this to make her career stronger and sell advertising. Her eyes beam when she hears about another child gone missing.

I'm over it. Every local station here in Orlando is covering the trial live, everyday. Hopefully it'll wrap up by next weekend.

If I saw her on the street, I wouldn't even give her a second glance.

That is the key issue. Everyone can have symphany for a murdered child and want to see justice being done. Most child murders are done by a parent, and many are so angry when it happens they want to the trial, that want to see that 'gotcha' moment when they hopefully hang themselves. Then there are issues as to evidence This is also in a state that allows cameras in the courtroom during trials, most don't so the media gets programing for a relatively cheap price.

Who is Casey Anthony. I'd look it up but it's just another "news" story that is irrelevant.

No, I really have never heard of him or her.

My 2 cents is you have a very cute child her lost her life and a unemotional bitch of a mother, now all evidence points that she is guilty as sin and should fry for her crime.

I heard someone say on the news that the prosecution didn't do a good job of presenting their case, and that they had a lot of circumstantial evidence. I couldn't care less about the trial, so I don't know whether that's true or not.

How true....

A similar case finished here yesterday, a father was sentenced to life for killing his 2 year old to get back at his ex-partner. He posted on facebook that he was about to 'kill ma kid'..... The mother has been quite prominent in the coverage of the case, again, more than likely helped by the fact that she's young & attractive & the victim was a cute little kid.

Hope the 'father' gets what's coming to him in jail, but he's more than likely proably in solitary.....

Standing by for the leviathan of the sea (aka Nancy Grace) to arise from the deep and go on a massive rant about how justice wasn't done, how she wants an investigation into all sorts of stuff, etc.

The point here is that the prosecution DID NOT do their jobs and prosecute her with something that could have held up in a court of law. They had to have proven without a reasonable doubt that Casey Anthony did it, and they couldn't. They failed the American justice system, it's not the other way around!

My mother has been following this case like crazy. I'm fed up of watching it, but I would still get a daily update. After all this time of being sick of the trial constantly being on TV I was just waiting for them to finish so that they could announce that she was so obviously guilty. I guess my mum was right when she said this was the OJ case of this era.

The thing we must remember while everyone starts to crack jokes is that behind this media circus, there was a beautiful little girl who did nothing to deserve the death she got. She was left to decompose in her mothers car, while she was out partying, and eventually left in a lot behind her mothers house where her remains were fed upon by animals.

My Mom told me the charges she was convicted of carry a maximum sentence of a year each so with time served she is a free woman. I just threw up .

25 iflykpdx : I'd much rather they allowed cameras into Supreme Court cases rather than these overhyped media sensationathons. At least those have a real impact on
26 Homsar : If they were to allow cameras into the Supreme Court, I'd rather it be through something like C-Span. Don't need to turn important judicial decisions
27 iflykpdx : Yeah, a single public access channel rather than the news media. Could cover SC cases and important appellate cases.
