Calling all rampers and CSAs, current and former-

I'm writing a screenplay, originally as part of an assignment for an elective class I took last semester, but now has become a bit of a side project during the summer. It's all in good fun, I'm obviously not looking to sell it or anything insane like that (nor do I have delusions of grandeur that I even could!).

My vision is a film similar to "Waiting..." or "Super Troopers"- an R-rated comedy with an ensemble of funny yet true-to-life characters showing the behind the scenes of a world most of the public doesn't get to see. They say to write what you know, and I've worked on various ramps for 2 years out of the last 4.

So far, I've come up with basic archetypal characters on both the ramp and CSA side of the operation. I've also included an ops agent character, MX guys at the station, TSA people, airport people and personnel from other airlines. I've also come up with archetypal customers one usually encounters when working at the airport. If you guys would like me to give examples or a more detailed list of those characters, by all means, let me know.

What I need now are personal anecdotes from those who have worked at an airport (of any size or traffic level). I'm looking for funny, inappropriate and/or over-the-top crazy (that I could make funny). It can be an interaction with customers, it could be something that happened to you alone, it could be something involving only you and your co-workers, it can be really anything. I have some ideas myself, but not nearly enough to string a story together.

I know this is kind of weird, but once again, this is just an informal thing I'm doing for myself. No money is involved, nothing like that. I enjoy writing and I just want to collect some funny stuff together into an amusing screenplay with your help!

Thanks guys/girls and I look forward to some hilarious stories!
-Alex

Sounds a lot like BBC's "Come Fly With Me" show.

There was that one time I checked in a lady with an overweight bag and told her she could save on the fee if she took some items out. When she opened her bag I totally blushed..... it was filled with sex toys! She was a salesperson for a Adult Entertainment company and had no shame about her wares! When I told her that TSA may be interested in her products whebn they screen her bag her reply was classic..... " I love government employees! They some kinky-ass mother &$^#%@!"

She even offered to let me keep a set of black fuzzy handcuffs. I politely declined

Haha nice! Something similar happened to me in the bagroom once, that would make a funny scene.

Alex-I'm glad I read this post even if I'm not a ramp agent or CSA. See, my name is Alex too and we apparently like both planes and writing. I am writing a script too and am playing around with certain ideas. If you need help writing a screenplay a man named Syd Field, a screenplay writer/teacher at University of Southern California. I found his screenplay workshop on youtube and it was very helpful. Only, I find it easier to use Final Draft software for the computer. It's very helpful too.

Good story obviously because it's already a show so I'd say you're on the right track. Also, why not try to sell your screenplay? I know it's difficult and all but if you have a job to support yourself, there's no risk. I also write short stories and personally, would rather try to focus on that as it's more likely to be successful. But you never know.

Awesome! I've always enjoyed writing of all kinds, and recently became interested in screenplays after I took the acting class earlier this year.

I will check him out, thanks for the tip!

Is that software free?

I guess I never thought of that, just because I've never written a complete script before. I suppose when I have something good, there's no reason I couldn't try.

the software costs like $249 to download but I'm sure you can find it at Office Depot or Staples where they sell their computer games/software for computers. you can always ask the employees if you don't see it and maybe they'll order it for you. I'm not sure about the cost of doing that though. I actually don't have it myself yet but I googled it and I'm sure it's not hard to find. I'll probably get it as a Christmas present. Good luck with your writing.
